Groundbreaking piece of journalism. I wanted to buy a property but an Israeli bought it first. There you go, proof that Israel is systematically buying Cyprus. This is literally all this article says. I thought Cyprus Mail had higher standards.
>Currently, it is apparent that Cyprus is being bought by Israel, piece by piece. I am not anti-Israeli, but I am worried that our system is such that if it wasn’t Israel it could well be Russia or China, or Turkey for that matter. Just about anyone! Now that I mention it, if the Turks were not accustomed to simply grab by force what they want, they could have silently and peacefully bought Cyprus many times over already.
Buying property in a country does not buy the country. The property that a foreigner buys is still part of Cyprus, and RoC has sovereignty over it.
Otherwise I could just raise my own flag over my property and have an independent country where the laws of Cyprus do not apply. That is not how it works.
Of course this doesn’t mean that there should be no limits in the amount of properties that foreigners can buy. Several countries do have such limits.
But foreigners buying a lot of properties in Cyprus (and Cypriots buying properties in other countries) is not something new. There are a lot of British, Russians, Arabs etc who own properties in Cyprus, it is not just the Israelis.
an article in Turkish Cypriot press today was talking about a similar situation in Karpasia
> I am not anti-Israeli
But it was the first thing I mentioned in my very deep and precise research 👌
We are selling piece by piece so some developers can profit by it. And yes, there is danger that these properties will be sold to Turks or Turkish interest companies. But hey, who cares. As long as the devs can profit by it.
