Taxi driver gave my wife a big Sob story about Uber and free now and all that stuff , then proceeded to charge €8 more than I got charged from an Uber before Christmas for basically the same journey 😀

I like to play a game now.
I take a fixed fare Uber, and chat to the driver as normal. If they bitch or moan even once about Ubers fixed fares , I just get out at the destination, thank them for their time and leave.
However if they aren’t complete insufferable arseholes , and don’t try make me feel guilty for trying to not get ripped off, I’ll give them the difference between my fixed fare and the meter fare as a cash tip.
Careful now, before you know it they’ll be chanting Taxi Uber Alles

The taxi drivers are all hypocrites, they were happy to accept Uber taking a cut to find easier fares, but when Uber implemented a fixed fare which was supposed to work out to a similar amount as the meter they all kicked up a fuss saying uber taking a cut was the end of the world, even though it was only an issue if there was deceptive tactics at play.
One profession where I’m happy to see them getting fucked over, they deserve it.

Yeah got an uber fixed fare recently and the driver spent a good portion of the drive giving out about Uber fixed fare.
Uber are cunts but so are nearly all the taxi drivers in Dublin. I’d normally support working people over these companies but taxis behave so terribly in Dublin and are so unprofessional that I just can’t support them.
Uber disrupted the trade in London and it forced black cabs to reform and improve their service. Unfortunately, the same is needed in Ireland. The standard here is so low, and drivers behave very poorly a lot of the time.
The regulator does not give a fuck either, so it is a waste of time reporting them. A driver was caught fixing his meter a few years ago and was fined a few hundred and allowed to keep his taxi licence. The case also hinted that they knew other drivers were using the same method, but nobody else was ever brought up on it.
