      Think of all those veto powers over other countries that the security council will lose if the UN goes under. Seems like a no brainer for the inner circle to want to keep it running, but I guess I’m just not cut out to be a tyrant.

      We need to stop the peace board garbage (maybe it could be useful after trump is gone, I have no idea) and just dissolve the charter and get rid of the P5. The UN is the most important governing body in the entire world.

      Holy shit, only 36 out of 193 UN members are current on their dues. Here I was thinking the US not paying was big news, but apparently it’s actually just the norm.

      All they do is write strongly worded letters.

      Completely inefficient and ineffective.

      I would be in favour of the UN reforming for the modern era, and every nation should be on the hook for an equal amount in my opinion. Also, the citizens of the nations represented should be elected by the nations they are meant to represent, and those representatives should represent the interests of the majority in that nation. Keep in mind, that if a certain escalator didn’t „break down“ with an important couple in the middle, things would probably look a bit less bleak for them.

      Easy fix – countries with a past due balance lose all veto power on the security council. Watch that money appear out of thin air.

      Its amazing to think about how people like Musk are nearly trillionairs and yet the worlds most respected organization of nations could collapse due to a few billion.

      Don’t allow countries in arrears to vote.

      See China pay their bills if there’s a vote on Taiwan.
      See USA pay their bills if there’s a vote on Cuba or child sex trafficking.

      I don’t understand the numbers. The USA owes over 2 billion. Annual operating budget is 3.7 billion. The USA pays 22% of the budget. That means the USA is 3 years in arrears?

      That would have to go way beyond Trump.

      If the UN can’t sustain its humanitarian efforts, millions of people will die annually as a direct result. Their blood will be on the hands of these deadbeat countries especially the Trump administration.

      Best bet for UN is to auction itself to move its headquarters to somewhere other than New York.

      The US has no interest in the world anymore. It repeatedly dumps on the UN.

      I am sure China might be willing to spend billions being the host.
