    1. Is Hollywood just out of ideas?

Why does everything need to be a remake or prequal/sequal or part of a franchise?

The remake is never as good (ok, I am sure there are acceptions, but 90% of the time, the remake is just a weak imitation).

We are never going to get something new and amazing if we keep regurgitating the same material.

    2. I agree. I’m sooooo sick of remakes.
Come on Hollywood make some new stuff.

The Hughes movies represented that time in history so well that we can overlook the things that would never be in a movie now. They are special.

I would go see something like Uncle Buck starring Danny McBride….

    5. Whatever. Get over yourself. It’s just a movie, of course it can and should be remade. People always make a big deal out of remakes. It’s not that big of a deal.

She’s right. His films were products of their time. They shouldn’t be remade, even as period pieces, because they would be inauthentic. Want to watch The Breakfast Club? Great! Find it on streaming. You can’t need a shiny, vapid new version.

The only version of 16 candles that isn’t the original that I would ever wanna see is the version from the universe where they went with Robert Downey Jr over Jon Cryer for Duckie and with the original ending as Hughes originally wrote it.

But no… don’t remake his movies please.

Edit: yes I swapped 16 candles and pretty in pink, I’m an idiot.

Nor should they be remade. They were made in a specific context and time that wouldn’t be replicable today.

Make the teen comedies for today’s audience, not remaking the past joys of their parent’s youths.

    9. I hope they never remake those 80s movies.

They would make it so boring and “safe”

    10. Agree, leave John Hughe’s movies alone. Get some ideas going. What this country needs is a really good comedy, not another remake.

While some basic elements are universal the overall films were very much products of their time, about gen x 80s teens. There’s probably hundreds of writers out there that have submitted scripts inspired by Hughes films but wanting to do it through a new lens and new perspective of their generation and the 2020s. But those don’t sell according to Hollywood these days and they’d just rather have Sixteen Candles or the Breakfast club remakes.

It would be interesting for all the cast members to come back as parents (grandparents?) or teachers with kids in detention.

Are we talking about just the earnest hilarious 80s teen comedies? Because Hughes was down for Home Alone 2, wrote and produced the completely WTF there’s no new ideas here VHS/DVD cash grab so let’s pump something out for 8 year olds Home Alone 3 also.
