The American company SpaceX has restricted the use of Starlink satellite internet on transport in Ukraine.

Today, members of the specialized group “People’s Starlink” on Facebook began reporting messages about excessively high terminal movement speed.

According to Defense Ministry adviser Serhii “FLASH” Beskrestnov, today’s restrictions are the first countermeasures taken by the company at the request of Ukraine’s defense ministry.

He added that these restrictions are temporary.

“I want to emphasize that the current decisions are TEMPORARY (or, to put it differently, EMERGENCY) and will be replaced by a global, well-thought-out solution, which will require time,” Serhii Beskrestnov wrote.

On January 29, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov reported that Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, together with Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, is working to resolve the problem of terminals being used on Russian drones.

It should be recalled that in January Ukraine’s air defense for the first time intercepted a Russian BM-35 unmanned aerial vehicle, which was controlled via a Starlink satellite terminal. Prior to that, terminals had been recorded on Molniya strike drones, and the earliest use on Shahed drones was recorded in September 2024, but at that time it did not become widespread.

Many users of the Starlink satellite communications system in Ukraine are already observing the first countermeasures that SpaceX has taken at the request of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

I cannot publicly disclose everything that has already been done, is being done, and will be done, but all these actions are aimed at one goal: protecting the residents of our country (both military and civilians) and our infrastructure facilities from the threat posed by the enemy’s strike UAVs.

I want to emphasize that the current solutions are TEMPORARY (or, to put it differently, EMERGENCY) and will be replaced by a global, well-thought-out solution, which will require time.

Also, the time has long come to collect all information across the country regarding users of SpaceX services in the Army.
I do not hide it — such attempts have already been made, but many soldiers who use volunteer-provided Starlinks and personal Starlinks did not want to submit information to the command. What if the commander takes it away, or a new one won’t be issued, or something else.

We will definitely come up with a way to collect information across the Army so that soldiers trust us with this information.

I also want to say that SpaceX is involved in the process and is helping specialists of the Ministry of Defense.

Once again, I apologize to those who were temporarily affected by the measures taken, but for the security of the country right now these are very important and necessary actions.
