„Even though it is one of the most common types of halo, the shape and orientation of the ice crystals responsible for the 22° halo are the topic of debate. Hexagonal, randomly oriented columns are usually put forward as the most likely candidate, but this explanation presents problems, such as the fact that the aerodynamic properties of such crystals leads them to be oriented horizontally rather than randomly. Alternative explanations include the involvement of clusters of bullet-shaped ice columns.“

      There’s a halo ‚round the moon

So I know it ain’t to blame

‚cause I knew what love could do

But I loved her just the same

Then I let her slip away

Now I’m all alone and blue

That’s the price I got to pay

I’ve seen one of these in winter about 15 years ago. I also saw a solar halo last year in Hawaii. Both very cool!

    4. I live in a very rural area…. I see this every year and always assumed everyone did… I guess I’m pretty lucky
