      Well, then Michel has certainly an idea how to transform 26 NATO members into a fighting force without US tankers, sensor platforms, recon & communication satellites, large scale command & control infrastructure, air defense, deep strike capabilities, jet engines & electronics, software, sea line protection for critical materials, air/sea lift and a dozen other critical military fundamentals which the US provides within NATO. All stuff which the non-US part of NATO either does not possess or only possess in miniscule numbers.

      And where the hundreds of billions will come on how to pay for that transformation.

      I get where he is coming from but I don’t share his view.

      It’s crystal clear and obvious to everyone that Rutte is only putting on an act for the naked emperor, trying to somehow to keep the alliance together for as long as possible.

      Rutte is the only reason NATO survived 2016, and that’s why he’s at the helm now. Without him, Denmark and Germany would have doomed the alliance then and seen Ukraine thrown to the wolves for cheap gas.

      Like Fogh Rasmussen, he is working on his career opportunities, after he is done as Nato General Secretary.

      I was never a fan of him, and now he really shows his color – which just makes him even more despicable.

      Charles Michel is useless and work only and solely for one thing : himself.

      Now, regarding Mark Rutte statement, why does he state such a thing ? Because he plays a role where he have to maintain NATO cohesion. What is the endgame of such a statement ? Make European countries realize strategic sovereignty is not just word, but action and coherent policies implementation. 

      First of all, ditch F-35. Buy sovereign European fighter jet. Russian air defense system are vulnerable to 4.5 gen fighter, it requires electronic warfare much more than stealth. You can buy Rafale, or Eurofighter, or work on europeanisation of Grippen.

      People claim that Rutte is only putting up a show to please Daddy, but how you know that it’s a act? Rutte could be delusional or „American agent“ as Michel puts it.

      Mark rutte is working to keep NATO together under difficult circumstances. That’s his job description. Some of the stuff he says and does is hard to take because it’s a very hard line to walk these days. He has to keep the Americans in. So he sounds like he’s talking American sometimes.

      Too easy to diss Rutte. The prime goal for NATO is to keep the USA involved in the Ukraine war. We have seen how Trump can withdraw from almost anything. Rutte kept Trump involved. With Charles Michel in the lead, Europe would have shown balls and lost US support. All for the sake of dignity, Ukraine would have been doomed. Instead of dissing the saviour of Europe, Mark Rutte, who plays his role excellently, Charles Michel should start thinking about what is more important now. Defending Ukraine and Europe, or showing moral superiority.

      I do not believe Rutte’s personal stance matches his public one. He needs to keep the alliance going and this will sadly involve stepping on the non-US toes.
