So Canadian workers should lose their jobs because a regime we didn’t elect and don’t support is oppressing their population happens to use stuff made in Canada. Party of the workers folks!

How about worry about the problems at home?
What a joke the ndp has become

I am very progressive but NO on this one. We are at risk of being invaded by the US ourselves. Let’s keep out of the US’ internal politics. The US is a democratic government and their population although deeply divided did it to themselves.

I don’t see the need when the populace will speak with their wallet and negative attention towards those company brands. Look at Tesla as a prime example. The government should not be tabling sanctions against a company as that will be a slippery slope.

I can’t wait to come and read these comments tomorrow. It’s going to be awesome because there’s going to be a bunch of people will say they shouldn’t have to lose their job blah blah blah. Yes we’re making more vehicles for America and so far it’s being used to attack their citizens it’s not like America’s attack Canada in any kind of trade war yet and it’s not like we should you know maybe not send war machines down to the south.

But let’s throw away humanity and make sure we can earn a few bucks!

      Boycott Garda World
(It runs Alligator Alcatraz and other ICE detention facilities)

Just like we don’t want the U.S. meddling in our affairs, I don’t think we should be meddling in the affairs of the U.S.

Canada should have no opinion on U.S. immigration policies or enforcement except when it encroaches on our sovereignty.

NDP are such a joke. I’d never vote for them because they do not fit my ideology, however there’s plenty out there that would vote for them, especially amongst gen z. Looking at the campaign Zohran Mamdani ran in NYC and comparing it to the NDP is baffling. If they had the slightest of sense they would be taken much more seriously.

    9. I am normally sympathetic to the NDP, but this is dumb. Regardless if how we feel about what’s happening with ICE down south, they are a Federal Branch of Government for them. If we are going to take this stance it should be „sanction all companies that do business with the US government“ as sanctioning business with ICE is functionally doing that.

That doesn’t even get into the fact that this will cause more harm then good for democracy as a whole. They are obviously doing this in response to Roschel selling Senators to ICE. Do you know what Roschel Senators became famous from? Supplying armored vehicles to Ukraine. They have sort of become synonymous with Ukrainian troops to the point Roschel is making a Factory in Ukraine to help the war effort. Sanctioning them undermines Ukraine.

Lastly, all this would do is drive away investors in the Canadian market. If we are going to sanction companies based on who they sell to, they will just leave the country chasing away our talent.

    10. And this is why the NDP won’t have a majority in the near future. Focus on your roots, go back to Layton and perhaps I’d throw you a vote again.

The US Gestapo is not our problem currently, might as well make some money off them

    11. The NDP is in a leadership race. Their going to say a lot of crazy left things for votes

    12. Wait wait wait, now they are against Canadian companies making money? You know money that goes back into society so it can keep going. And they are mad about this why? No sanctions required at all.

    13. ghostdeinithegreat on

This is why they are not a serious party.

They lose time pushing policy ideas that are not going to bring any real values to Canadian citizen.

    14. CarneyCousin on

To any leftists/liberals who are okay with the Canadian companies doing business with ICE, thank you for being morally consistent.

I fundamentally agree with the fact that we need to do what’s best for our survival. If that includes China or Qatar, oh well.

But following the same logic, that includes the US and specifically ICE too.

And finally, to anyone who agrees with this NDP MP, I best see you criticizing carney for making deals with China and Qatar in the next Reddit post about it.

    15. ILikeVancouver on

Jesus fuck, can we stop grandstanding with America for a second? This isn’t our fucking fight, especially if we are out there signing trade deals with Qatar and China.

    16. JauntyGiraffe on

Nah, I don’t care enough about what’s happening in America to cost any Canadians any jobs

    17. spectral_visitor on

This ain’t black or white folks. This is a grey area that is worth talking about but not worth freaking out over.

    18. HotBreakfast2205 on

We have enough illegal and fraud immigration problems in this country, worry about that, first!

    19. Berserkir117 on

The irony, asking a government that does nothing about their immigration problem, to sanction people who do business with a government agency that’s doing something about their immigration problem.

You can’t even make this sht up lol

    20. PapayaJuiceBox on

Hey, how about we focus on Canadian immigration and the businesses who keep submitted (and getting approved) slightly off center and non-kosher LMIAs?

We hate when the US meddles in our affairs, but here we are calling to meddle in theirs. Being objective here, but it feels slightly tone deaf.

Edit: I know it’s not the same as what’s going on in the US.. but.. can we just focus on Canada?

Edit 2: NOW I KNOW there’s bots here. Posted my comment less than 20 seconds ago, already 3 downvotes. Aint no way.

    21. I do not think this is a reasonable or viable thing, and it comes off as virtue signalling.

Yes, the US under the Trump administration are doing some wildly fucked up things. Yes, ICE is being used as a kind of pseudo fascist enforcer squad to carry out an ideological agenda that should be reviled.

That said, the it is still (at least on paper and formally) a part of the US government, which is a nation that we still want to have productive trade relations with. To my mind, either we are willing to do business with the US government, or not. And following that, the choice is whether or not to do any business at all with the US Government or to not do any business at all with them.

And if we are willing to enter trade agreements with China (which has done way more fucked up shit), I do not see why we would balk at doing business with the US. Unless, as I said, it is an attempt to virtue signal and garner votes.

      END COMMUNICATION

    22. Great-Mullein on

Eh, we still do business with China, UAE, and Qatar. I don’t see the big deal.

Are we really going to pretend we have some sort of deep moral value when it comes to trade?

    23. It would be a great time to dust off the Competition Act. Glad she spoke up!
