Is this India currying favour so when they follow Iran’s example they have an international get out of gaol free card? Amorality at it’s finest – the biggliest morality.

I was downvoted to hell last time I criticized India’s government choices in context of Ukraine. But unfortunately, India’s government seems to continuously prioritize monetary gains over human life. That is really shameful. Now, feel free to downvote again.

India has made a lot of investments in Iran with the current regime. Specifically in Chabahar Port, its surrounding SEZ and in Iranian oil companies (i think). Some of these investments are closely in line with India’s strategic policy to contain Pakistan, which the current regime has supported, to some extent, so far.
End of the day, its the age old geopolitical equivalent of scratching each other backs. So yeah, to me this doesnt seem surprising at all.

India’s fopo really puzzles me. I don’t know if it benefits them overall. They have really no strategic allies. Like a country of that size and economy should not realistically face that much international ambivalence over their border disputes but Pakistan despite being smaller, poorer, more unstable, is so much better at global realpolitik. It’s allied with China. It was harboring Bin Laden but is still sold jets by the US. It gets zero diplomatic pushback by India’s closest (well for India) ally Russia. It’s way less important than India to global trade but somehow manages to make the world shrug at their territorial conflict and turn a blind eye to its security risks.

But why doesn’t the US just go to the UN when a dictator should be removed? I was told that’s all that needs to happen to remove Maduro or the Ayatollah

India is realizing politics means picking sides. Will have to get off the fence soon.

Why would India pick a side? Canada and Europe suck on the US tit and look where it got them?
Invasion threats daily from the supposed beacon of freedom and democracy.
Their non alignment strategy works for them. India never has to worry about anyone betraying them because they know when it truly comes to it, you are the only one capable of defending yourself.

Haven’t we learnt our lesson with Bangladesh? Supporting the regime over the people would bite us in the ass in the long run.

Every day that passes by, I am more and more embarrassed to be of Indian origin. India always votes against country-specific resolutions but in this case, India should have just abstained in the worst case. This is just nuts.

“India, China and Pakistan were among seven countries that voted against the resolution, which was adopted with 25 members voting in favour and 14 abstaining”
LOL , Common interest for all these countries

Not going against russia was defensible in context, but the Indian government could have done better here.
