To reduce dependency on big tech. Given these messaging apps typically work based on the networking effect you need reach. Wero has reach across Europe.

I don’t want my bank having access to both my spending and texting history. However Wero seems the most promising platform in Europe for supplanting the need for Visa and Mastercard.
I support the growth of tech in Europe and elsewhere as a counterbalance to US tech hegemony.
But as a software developer myself, one thing to keep in mind is that great software is never made for patriotic reasons. While it’s true that Silicon Valley itself was originally built by the US defence department, what made it special was that it became a playground for the most innovative and creative people to build products and services people love to use.
The most iconic startups there were created not by people who believed in American destiny or anything but by those who loved building stuff, the Wozniaks, Gates and Jen Huangs of the world who stay up all night and are are obsessed with what they do. The way to creating a successful tech space is to facilitate an ethos where such people can grow.

There are already enough alternatives, there is no need for a new one. You just have to use them.

ability to pay without a battery powered device would be nice!

Yes. Combing multiple functionalities like WeChat, honestly, should be the goal. Make chat end 2 end encrypted. Also, Wero physical cards, so we can ditch Visa/Mastercard. If ti can combine 2-3 other functionalities ( idk wallet for european digital health card)

No, Wero is meant to be payment app, and that’s it.
If you want messaging, there are plenty of apps available

Can we please not include messengers into every single app? Thanks.

Most of Europe has their own payment systems. Just focus on a hub to connect them together. Why would I want to replace my fully functioning MBway with a different system? It makes no sense and is wasteful, that effort could go into the EU payment hub. Why don’t Wero users realise that Wero isn’t special,? The functionality is actually found in many other payment systems.

Why on earth would I want messaging in a payment app?

A bit like a european WeChat? I don’t know if I’d like that… maybe? If we had the certitude that the messaging is really private, which I doubt especially with chat control.

No, I don’t want to have my private communication through my banking app. That’s silly! Great thread and input, though.
If you put action to your words, you should consider to negotiate a partnering with the other 27. To gather experiences, combine the best, gain funding and development power, and make WERO the European super transfer platform!
And, folks:
To be honest, I don’t really get the downvoting of the OP? Some peops really must have a big pain in their ass…!

No need to merge all this data, for the customers it offer no value.
I think we’d view it with a lot of suspicion.

You might be unfamiliar but there is already the [European Mobile Payment Systems Association](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Mobile_Payment_Systems_Association). We don’t need to reinvent the wheel, we need people to use it.
