Google Maps was in beta for two years. At the time, it seemed like an eternity. Everyone wondered why it was still in beta when it worked so well. The map quality was not as good as others, but the features were better.

This tech started as Where2 in Sydney in 2004, google acquired them and debuted as Google Maps the next year. Google shares were sold at $85 at that time.
