      What was always strange about this is that local law enforcement never had any responsibility in this role until Republicans recently started getting raging hard-ons for immigrants.

      Republicans were always fine with illegal immigrants. They provided an underclass to businesses that work jobs Americans didn’t want to do, at rates they didn’t want to do them, and effectively had no rights. The recent fetishism with deporting all of them is an odd contrast.

      But, of course, the huge deportation army is also an army that can be used for other things …
