Spotifys dritte Preiserhöhung in 2,5 Jahren deutet auf eine mögliche neue Normalität hin | Spotify behauptet, dass die höheren Gebühren „den Künstlern zugute kommen“ würden.

Getting close to downloading MP3s again 🏴☠️
I switched to Deezer, haven’t looked back
Well, shareholders wants the line to always go up and this is the result. Thank god I’m must a musicphile and can just listen to whatever with amazon prime music.
Check deals + alternatives. Just paying without checking cheaper plans or discounts means you miss ways to save – also assume price = better artist support isn’t always true
Key section from this piece:
>For years, Spotify subscribers enjoyed stable prices, but today’s announcement marks Spotify’s third price hike since July 2023. Spotify last raised prices in July 2024. Premium individual subscriptions went from $11 to $12, Duo subscriptions went from $15 to $17, and Family subscriptions increased from $17 to $20.
>
>In 2024, Spotify blamed the higher prices on its need to “invest in and innovate on our product features.” Today, it said:
>
> „Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.“
>
>The reasoning offered is vague, but some features that Spotify recently implemented include the addition of lossless audio in November, music videos in December, and new Messages features (one that lets you share your listening activity with friends and one that lets you request joint listening sessions called Jams) earlier this month. It also opened an 11,000-square-foot podcast studio in Hollywood this month.
>
>In terms of Spotify’s claims of benefitting artists on its platform, in March the Stockholm-headquartered company put out a report that said it paid $10 billion in music royalties in 2024, which was more than it had ever paid. Spotify also added more ways for video podcasters to make money this month.
>
>Some in the industry still criticize how much artists can make off of Spotify. In 2024, Billboard estimated that changes in how Spotify pays artists would result in musicians receiving millions less in royalties.
>
>…
>
>With financial numbers suggesting that it’s winning customers more than losing them, Spotify may feel confident in adopting more regular price hikes, like other subscription-based businesses do, to fund new business ventures, new features, and royalty payments.
Their total payout to artists is one number, sure, but another number that would be relevant to assess the veracity of their statement about benefiting artists would be what they are paying per stream, or perhaps the median and mean artist payout amount for a given period of time. Other supposed benefits like a new podcasting studio are fine, but not nearly as useful as actual money.
Well, too fuckin bad, Spotify.
In this day and age claims are worth nothing without the receipts.
And we know your greedy asses won’t bring ‚em because they don’t back up your claims.
I’m back to collecting and storing my music locally. F this.
I finally canceled this week. They aren’t even paying artists well.
„Now here’s 70% AI generated music in your Discover Weekly:
The oI’ American bait and switch subscription scheme
Geez, I just got one of my songs picked up by Spotify, and now this. I swear my superpower is awful timing.
Killed my Spotify. On tidal now
I’m not interested in benefiting artists and spare me that line of crap anyway.
More like help fund the AI artist’s. Just like every greedy company right now they are very obsessed with AI!
This is a friendly reminder that VPNs exist, and Spotify is about €3/mo in places like Turkey and Brazil
Plex pass + downloading.
Never need to pay again.
(I bought plexpass in 2013. When it was $75. Best investment ive ever made.)
Plexamp. (The music player app) even supports carplay.
fuck this. we’re paying for joe rogans bullshit 250m deal.
Narrator: They won’t
Meanwhile Spotify populates their official playlists with ai so even though they’re charging more the actual artist gets paid less and Spotifys CEO gets even more richer than almost all musicians combined
So when can workers decide they are going to be paid more starting the following month like these subscription services do? If one employee does sure they’re fired, but if all of them do it randomly throughout the year employers would beg for collective bargaining.
Which artists? The AI generated Spotify artists? Booooo!!
I’ll let you know how many cents more I get
Yeah, the artists are ALWAYS at the forefront in the minds of big business and billionaires!!!!
From the way I understand it, Spotify offers some of the least benefit to the artist.
So anyone know how to export your favorites list from Spotify? I’m going to try out Apple Music for a while
FUCK SPOTIFY. they create nothing. They don’t own that fucking music. They pay artists nothing.
You can cancel and keep your playlists. What’s funny is that they will email all your family member telling them to harass you to turn it back on.
serious cows subsequent library silky crown consist entertain teeny squeal

Just cancel your paid account
and shit like this is gonna bring back piracy. cheaper to download for free than to pay these robbery prices.
I cancelled after 12 years, price hikes and them supporting 🧊. Hope they go under.
„benefits artists“ LoL Yeah.
I’m not sure why, but that was the price I’m no longer willing to pay.
Guess I’m switching to YouTube Music fulltime.
I feel like most of these “artists” are basically Joe Rogan. They paid so much for him that they got to recuperate the cost somehow.
It sucks but theres really no good alternatives, Youtube Music sucks and is expensive, Pandora is irrelevant, Sirius XM isn’t the same, MP3 downloading is inconvenient, Soundcloud is mostly garbage and AI generated garbage, Apple Music doesn’t have a lot of music to choose from and I’m an android user. Someone should make a good alternative to Spotify
I mean. At some point I’ll just pirate music again.
No they won’t.
I dont give a fuck about benefiting artists
Price hikes for ai music… lovely, glad I stick to the artists I know are real
Cancelling in 8 months. LFG Navidrome + Tailscsale!
Spotify has never cared about the artists ever. Numerous lawsuits have proven than. Why would they care now? Their excuse is garbage. They are totally playing their customers.
Lastly support services that support the artist. Spotify isn’t that.
Switching to YouTube Music is sounding better and better. That or a Google about Revanced…
Last I checked, Taylor Swift doesn’t need to benefit anymore.
