Anecdotally the best time to traffic a human is during busy travel times.
Well that should be a expensive fine
Someone posted in the Ottawa sub about it the day after it happened looking for advice what to do.
I guess they were super exhausted getting off the flight, didn’t have luggage and just started following the signs after deplaning. They were out the door and on the way home before they realized they just exited the airport without clearing immigration or customs.
I used to work at the airport in Toronto . I think the fine levied by the CBSA to the airline is a per passenger fine . How many did not get initially cleared
So I’ve had something similar happen to me at YRV coming in from Shanghai. We had to catch a connection to Montreal and when we got a fork in the hall an air Canada agent told us to go left (for connecting international flights). It was about 6-7 of us. We went through the one way doors. When we got to the connection security line the agents were confused and we were stuck there for about 10 minutes until they found out that the air Canada agent thought were coming off the Tokyo flight. Since we had no way to get back we got escorted through back hallways, did our immigration in the place where they film border security and out through random doors to collect our bags.
In 2007 I flew from Toronto to Charles De Gualle in Paris and no one getting off our plane passed through customs. Very weird but I was too tired to worry about it.
