A Massachusetts bakery owner says she’s facing death threats and online harassment over cookies she made to express her frustrations with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but she’s refusing to back down.
Niki Moran, the owner of The Sweet Boutique in East Longmeadow, says strangers promised to burn down her bakery, threatened to assault her employees and wished death on her children all because of cookies.
“We’ve gotten a lot of death threats, hoping me and all my female employees get raped and my male employees get robbed, that they’re going to lock me in the building and burn the place down with me inside. It’s just been a lot,” Moran said.
Death threats are a bit more credible now, aren’t they. You can be shot for insurrection in America.

We’re entering an era where you won’t know if you should take death threats seriously. With voice AI and the billions of ways to route calls and emails through spam networks, it wouldn’t surprise me if, in the near term, “threat bots” are used simply to keep people scared of “getting out of line,” by sending anonymous death threats over any action someone decides to be a jerk about.
Hell, most of us are already arguing with bots. If a bad actor wants to steer thought, just figure out who someone is and have an AI death threat them for any opinion. Dead internet imminent.
