This is nothing new, is it? It’s always been like this in New Brunswick. I’ve always been told, even pre-covid, to take a vacation day if I couldn’t make it in to the office due to snow. Not saying it’s fair, just what I’ve always known.
This seems pretty standard.
When I worked in a hospital in Sask there was a handful of times folks couldn’t get in due to weather. You took a vacation day or you didn’t get paid. That’s no different than the private sector.
Edit: fuck me, I guess. Who knew my experience of needing to take vacation when I couldn’t drive to work was a lie!
*About an hour after telling workers to head into the office or use a vacation day, the directive was revised.
“We are now being advised that if you have your equipment, you may work from home,” the follow-up, sent at 10:35 a.m., said. “Staff to decide for themselves if it’s safe or possible to drive in today. Please use your best judgment and prioritize safety.”*
Ya this is a bit ridiculous
