As a member citizen of these 5 countries, i believe we should colonize the rest of the continent to help boost its economy 1000%, and also solve our overcrowding issue as well

That makes sense when you consider that those five countries make up approximately 42-43% of the continent’s population, and are generally a bit more prosperous than the rest of the countries.
I’m honestly surprised it’s not more.

Every 60 seconds in Africa, 1 minute passes

Others pointed out these 5 countries have nearly half of Africa’s population, so i think this Map could be more interesting with GDP PPP (purchasing power) instead, maybe the 3-4 top countries generate the same or more GDP PPP as the rest of Africa.
Congo is the most depressing. It should have been the giant of central Africa but they are getting btfoed by rwanda

And have 1/3 of the African population…

This is a weird map. Why is Ethiopia included here? It has a smaller GDP than Morocco, Kenya, Angola, and Ghana.in fact, with Ethiopia, you end up just shy of 50%.

3 out of the 5 were in the only 4 African countries to have gained independence before the Second World War. The other being Liberia which is significantly smaller than the 3.

Fun fact, a single country has almost all of the GDP in Oceania! That’s also true in North America! The world really is a crazy place

They’re nearly the half of the continent in terms of population so I don’t think this is very surprising.

I suspect Egypt is just top because of domestic consumption from it’s sheer population. Otherwise, smaller African countries like Botswana have a higher quality of life.

South Africa has the largest gdp in Africa, but it’s still smaller than Colombia, Hong Kong or Denmark’s

[https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/gdp-price-levels-relative-to-the-us?tab=map](https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/gdp-price-levels-relative-to-the-us?tab=map) Looking at this Map, Nigeria and Egypt in particular would excel in PPP adjusted numbers, since their price levels (cost of living) is ultra low.
