White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday that President Donald Trump was „speaking facetiously“ when he told Reuters in an interview that “when you think of it, we shouldn’t even have an [midterm] election“ when boasting about his second-term accomplishments.
In a separate question, Leavitt was asked by a reporter, „Americans for generations have fought and died for democracy. Are you saying the president finds the idea of canceling elections funny?“

Leavitt’s response of „Only someone like you would take that so seriously“…well, given the fact that Trump has a propensity to throw terrible ideas out there and then try to effectuate them should give us all pause as to whether or not he actually means it. I can’t imagine that quite literally anyone on this board believes that Trump isn’t capable of doing his utmost to cancel the midterms. At the very least, he’s going to do everything he can to fuck with the elections and claim that results that don’t align with his expectations are cast into doubt and left uncertified.
