Cool stuff. Think about what happens when you place something with metal on it in your home microwave oven. Blue electrical sparks can be seen. The microwave causes voltage to be induced on the metal parts.
There are metal parts on the electronic circuit boards and hence high voltages are fed into the Integrated circuits on the circuit board that controls the drone when exposed to microwaves. The Integrated circuits typically have input protection that will protect the internal workings of the chip on a 1 time basis or up to a specific voltage. Afterwards the rest of the IC is fried by the voltage. Results equal dead drone.
