Its needed. We should help the most vulnerable in this world and give them the tools needed to have a successful life here. We do need to define what is considered vulnerable and also make sure we can integrate anyone that comes here into our communities.
No doubt the „Ireland is full“, „we are being replaced crowd“ will be over from telegram shortly with their scaremongering but if done correctly and people are treated with respect we can have a thriving country and will be all the better with people from a mix of cultures and experiences, not the division that so called dog kicking Citizen Journalists bring.

This is one of the few pieces of legislation that I don’t see any possible reason for a rational person having an objection to. O’Callaghan to be fair to him has done a fierce job in being realistic and also being honest with the current situation. I have no doubt some folks will bare their arse saying it’s bad but I hope this gets implemented ASAP. The sooner reforms are implemented, the better.

Jim is eying the FF leadership an he’s trying to come across tough on migration. The country is signed up to the EU migration pact so until that changes control over our borders stays with the EU

If it weren’t for the issue becoming untenable at an EU level, domestic heads would still be buried in the sand.

There’s going to be a whole load of people supporting this who were absolutely opposed to the EU migration pact, which is what this legislation is for implementing, and I just want to say I find that funny.

There was a “major reform” in 2015, 2017, 2021, and 2024.
That’s 4 reforms by what is de facto the same government yet most people would not say there has not been any meaningful improvement in that time.
I’ll believe it when I see it.

These reforms are long overdue.
For those entering accelerated decisions (3 months), in reality, detention centres would be a more appropriate approach with services on site.
Another thing that hopefully will be considered is a large increase in the time it takes to obtain citizenship. The IPA system should be treated as a last resort for people, not a backdoor to gaining a visa legitimately.

An early panic has started as he realises Reform could well win the UK’s next GE, and a million or so folks will be looking to jump ship and land over in Ireland instead.
