Do you know if all countries use the same type of measurement tools for the data?
Combination of factors probably. Immigration of unemployable people, cultural factors and quite good unemployment benefits.
[This thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/sweden/comments/1qarwn2/vad_%C3%A4r_den_fr%C3%A4msta_orsaken_till_den_%C3%B6kade/) from five hours ago and google translate will answer your questions.
Almost like Sweden and Finland are different countries with differing issues.
It’s very expensive to hire people
Corporate greed combined with our „strong“ unions that never fight for anything.
Finland and Sweden arent the same country. They can have different reasons for high unemployment rates.
But for Sweden there is no one cause.
1. In later years we had a low economic growth.
2. High interest rates.
3. Most jobs require higher education(university degree)
4. We often have Swedish as a requirement. High immigration rates increases the number of unemployed due to this.
5. Employment protection in Sweden is very high which is good. But it also means companies are careful to employ unless they really need to if they have a slow growth.
6. Most current growth we have is in our three largest cities. It is not always possible for people to move there.
So yeah there is no one cause but a mixture of them.
Immigration

Finland is a bit different, they had a more trade with Russia, for historical reasons, that got closed down due to the sanctions.
Finland struggles with high debt to GDP and is also part of the Euro, which makes it harder to counter a downturn.
Sweden on the other hand has low debt to GDP and is not part of the Euro, thus Sweden started to lower its interest rates earlier than the ECB.
Because of ARC Raiders
Immigration, the unemployment rate for those with Swedish background is below the equivalent EU average
Do we even have high unemployment if you take away all the immigrants?
Immigration
I think you should add the employment rate as well, not just unemployment. Those two together give a better picture of the statistics. Employment is about the same in Sweden and Germany, but unemployment is higher in Sweden, meaning more people are retired or otherwise outside the job market in Germany than in Sweden.
We have a government that does nothing to combat unemployment and calls anyone who is unemployed lazy.
Is it tho?
I mean, yeah, in certain countries it looks a little yikes, but with a 5% target, it looks like it’s more or less fine everywhere else.
Sweden has high unemployment due to migrants.
Jobmarket is tough also and requires good education.
Latest SCB statistics from October says:
Born in Sweden 3,4% unemployment
Migrants (not born in sweden) 12,1% unemployment.

Companies aren’t hiring.

This sub in a nutshell: blame immigration.
Sweden has high standards for worker rights, everyone is lazy, swedes a clique oriented, you have a trove of uneducated unmotivated immigrants who lack the motivation to integrate into Swedish society, wellfare pays all the bills for many people , i could go on.
Basically – countries count and handle unemployment figures different.
Sweden – high unemployment but also some of the highest employment rates.

Don’t forget swedens age old trick, hiding unemployment behind useless education, programs etc. 1% is probably more like 1.5.
higher education baseline makes people without proper education end up far outside the job market.
70% of job searchers in sweden lack a gymnasium degree.
Kristersson om arbetslösheten: Förfärligt – men kommer inte agera
I know it, but I don’t think I should say it.
Mass immigration with low qualifications mostly in combination with demands for high skilled workers.
Ageism, and Arbetsförmedlingen doesn’t help either
If you’re willingly unemployed (eg house wife) you don’t count as unemployed. Only if you’re actually looking for a job without getting it are you actually considered unemployed. This makes the stats hard to compare between countries. In Sweden you HAVE to be looking for work in order to get any kind of monetary aid from the state. That inflates our numbers compared to some other countries.
In Sweden immigration is most of it. Among Swedish-born people unemployment is much lower, about 4,5 percent, and that’s including children of immigrants born here (who are among other things statistically more criminal than their parents).
Mind you, the data used is seasonally adjusted, and trend, for Sweden. It doesn’t say what ages are used. The raw data for Sweden in November gives an unemployment rate of 7,2 percent for ages 20-64, and 8,2 percent for 15-74.
Remember also that all of the OECD uses the same definition for unemployment.
1. High payroll taxed and fees make it very expensive to hire more staff. Sometimes it can be cheaper to not grow your busienss.
2. Low disposable incomes makes it harder for people to go out to eat, which means fewer independent resturants and bars, which means higher unemployment among young people.
In Norway our real unemployment is closer to 25%. I just felt like sharing
Well why I am unemployed is because been waiting over 4 years for medical care. I just kind of need a pill and I am ready for work.
Apparently my municipality don’t have care guarantee like most other do in Sweden.
Where i live in sweden its because you need a masters degree in physics to scrub toilets
