Can we also focus on Kristi Noem committing fraud and getting caught red handed and nothing happened. No investigation. Nothing.
Call me crazy but after this one, four years where the biggest gripes were „girl angy she tied for fifth with a trans woman“ and „no change on one of the biggest global geopolitical powder kegs“ doesn’t seem so bad. Maybe, just maybe both sides aren’t the same after all?
Just last week, an unarmed white woman who is an American citizen was shot by ICE as she was driving away. No one is safe.
EDIT to say her name: Renee Good
The right will excuse and or fabricate justifications for any and all killings done by their side. Law and order to them just means they should be allowed to do whatever they want, and that their opposition should shut up or be murdered.
So yes, MAGA is getting exactly what they wanted.
The title attempts to imply a contradiction, but placing ‚law and order‘ in single quotes means (to me at least), they are not referring literally to enforcement of law and preservation of order. ‚Law and order‘ in quotes has a different meaning — racism, xenophobia, and selective enforcement of the law, the same meaning it has had since the 1960s. See NBC News video clip below..
[Trump’s ‚law and order‘ rhetoric echoes 1960s segregationist George Wallace](https://www.nbcnews.com/dateline/video/trump-s-law-and-order-rhetoric-echoes-1960s-segregationist-george-wallace-85938757706?featureFlagAix=true)
How much more are we gonna let this psycopath get away with until he is in chains in front of a judge and jury?
MAGA wanted “law and order” in the way Frank Wilhoit* described it:
> Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
*Frank Wilhoit the composer, not Frank Wilhoit the political scientist, oddly enough.
ICE shooting citizens is not friendly fire. ICE officers are terrorists and thus enemies of the people.
No they did not if they believed in law and order they would not have voted for a convicted felon before his sentencing and facing dozens of other felony charges. You cant say you believe in law and order when you vote for a man that openly said he was going to pardon Jan sixers. A guy who before being elected said he was going to use the DOJ to seek retribution. Fuck the media for acting like they just wanted law and order.
What do you think law and order means? This is a feature, not a bug. They hate liberals. Everyone living in a city is liberal to them, even if they’re living in the city and see far more neuance in individuals.
Is it true that many of these ICE agents are from Texas? Is that why they are wearing masks? Is this a civil war I’m seeing? Texas vs Minnesota?
It makes total sense based on the videos I’m seeing. These ICE agents have no idea how to drive, or even walk, in the snow!
„Law and order“ has been a conservative dog whistle for decades, and we know that Trump and MAGA don’t care all that sincerely about the law because they believe they are above it. That is to say, „For my friends everything, for my enemies the law.“
Trump has even stated as much; claiming that he is not beholden to any standards but his own and posting comments like, „He who saves his country does not violate any law,“ a quote often attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte insinuating that Trump is entitled to operate outside all laws and regulations, whenever and however he pleases. This is dictator logic.
MAGA’s law and order rhetoric intends to divide and aims to incite violence and hostility towards minorities, immigrants, marginalized segments of society and anyone who is subjectively deemed a „left wing agitator.“
In other words, to them, „law and order“ means punishing your enemies.
MAGA’s obsession with crime and punishment is reflected in their support for federalizing troops and local law enforcement to subdue their political opponents and terrorize the population. It’s reflected in this administration’s militarization of domestic policy, in Trump’s weaponization of ICE and the DOJ, in the Republican party’s disregard for the basic constitutional rights of the people they’re targeting and arresting, in Trump’s attacks on law firms and judges, in his defiance of court orders and flouting of checks and balances, and in his pursuit of vengeance against his critics, his political enemies and anyone who has ever tried to hold him accountable for HIS crimes.
The hypocrisy is baffling. While Trump and his supporters are demanding that he receive a Nobel Peace Prize for his feckless efforts at ending multiple wars (which he hasn’t) and „negotiating“ an imaginary peace around the world, he is simultaneously waging war against the American people, people he is tasked with protecting.
These tactics are taken directly from the fascist playbook. Including the current use of inflammatory rhetoric from Trump and his allies who are trying to justify their consolidation of power and their occupation of cities around the country by broadly designating Democrats and all left-leaning political foes as „terrorists.“
They’re also using this opportunity to employ another fascist strategy which involves scapegoating minorities, immigrants and out-groups; identifying them as „enemies“ and „threats“ to national security. This becomes their unifying cause, a point to rally around as Republicans spread fearmongering propaganda and misinformation that appeals to conservatives‘ culture war grievances, their paranoia and their phobias.
These outcome were sadly inevitable. The Trump administration’s authoritarian deployment of trigger happy, unaccountable ICE thugs around the country never intended to „reduce crime“ or drive back some imaginary „invasion“ or „rebellion.“ No, the intention was always to legitimize the aggressive occupation of areas around the country where Trump’s political opposition remains defiant of him and his policies.
Places where federalized troops and masked ICE agents have been mobilized to crackdown on protestors, crush dissenting voices, profile their targets, assault passersby, throw people into unmarked vehicles, suppress civil liberties and arrest or detain anyone who meets the government’s vague criteria of a „domestic terrorist.“
Donald Trump, his allies and followers are trying desperately to turn the criminals into the victims of these violent tragedies so that they can continue justifying the federal government’s terrorizing presence around the country.
It also speaks volumes that all of the MAGA mouthpieces are out in full force trying to defend murder; regurgitating the talking points that have been delivered by the White House; peddling the regime’s propaganda in order to control the narrative.
That narrative’s purpose is not only to make victims out of murderers, but to also insist that the woman who was unjustly slain this week deserved it because she is part of a larger, hostile, yet fictional left-wing threat to this country—excuse me—THEIR country.
None of these armed assailers were in imminent danger. The victim, Renee Good, was an American citizen and was not even a target of their operation, nor a threat to their lives. Good’s life was the only one at urgent risk and the man who killed her made a deliberate choice to do so when other, non-lethal choices were available.
The goal from the moment that this tragedy became national news was to politicize it, facts be damned. This is made apparent by the *fact(s)* that local investigations are currently being obstructed while even the president, the vice president and the director of DHS themselves spoke out almost immediately after the incident; making statements that sought to blame the victim and exonerate the shooter.
MAGA would be screaming bloody murder if they identified with the victim and *not* the shooter in this situation.
This is because their loyalty and the loyalty of these lawless, wannabe counter-revolutionaries is not to this country, nor the safety of its people, not to the law, nor the constitution, but to Donald Trump and to a destructive, hateful and violent ideology. The only authority they have to answer to is one that will absolve them of all wrongdoing—even in the case of murder.
Meanwhile, Trump has already threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act as part of an effort to subvert the authority of states and invalidate the Posse Comitatus Act, giving him the unilateral power to order the military and his personal army of ICE goons to enforce his will and carry out the law however the administration sees fit.
And like every other step Trump has taken towards consolidating power and control over the country, these actions do absolutely nothing to confront the underlying, root causes of crime, „domestic terrorism,“ political violence and other systemic issues.
These measures are also meant to produce the ILLUSION of safety. They fail at being an effective and reliable deterrent to anything.
And as elections roll around, there’s the very strong likelihood that Trump will use this militant presence to suppress the vote in urban areas.
It’s also clear that the Trump administration is hoping to provoke an incident. Republicans are desperate for an escalation—for a violent response so that Trump can continue to push the limits of his power and so him and his supporters can rationalize to themselves why more military incursions around the country are necessary.
But none of it is sincere. All of their rhetoric and their reactions to violent tragedies and political commotions of the past were really just rallying cries.
They couldn’t care less about the root causes of crime, political violence or domestic extremism. Their chief priority throughout all of this has been to construct a pretext to declare war against „the radical left.“
And now that the Trump administration gets to dictate whom or what conforms to the vague definition of a „domestic terrorist,“ they will continue to use this blanket label to suppress civil liberties, to scapegoat their enemies, to crackdown on dissent and to arrest (or kill) anyone who defies them.
you guys reckon trump will be able to amass enough power eventually to amend the constitution itself?
If there weren’t term limits, people will forget that this all happened and vote for him again. Many people clearly forgot what happened from 2017-2021.
I have a question as a non American: I read that the government is declining to identify Good’s murderer. Is there anyway to identify them besides the government telling us?
Out of curiosity, would stand your ground count against ice if they don’t have a warrant or anything else?
law and order by their definition, not yours
Oh maga is getting exactly what they want yeah
trump gave you a weak dollar: At the rate he is going, the Méxican peso will be 1:1 with the USD by 2028.
MAGA wanted an authorian crackdown because they are led to believe that crime is at an all time high thanks to places like FOX News. They knew what Trump was going to do and want this.
We are living in a dystopian world now where the government officials commit disgusting and blatant crimes for personal enrichment and AGAINST the people, and absolutely nothing is being done about it. How far America has fallen
That’s what they always *actually* mean when fascists and authoritarians use the term. That’s why it (or phrases just like it) features so heavily in every such regime in history. It should be taken as a warning, not a sincere statement.
I hope you guys get organized on large scale ASAP
Every time she gets on TV its lie after lie after lie. The latest from today. Renee and her wife were harassing agents ‚all day‘. Renee dropped her son off at school. School opened at 8am (i looked). Renee was shot at 937am. Whoever is keeping track of this, add it to the list.
It’s a mistake to think people who voted for this wanted „law and order“ because that phrase is simply a dog whistle for violence against people they look down on or don’t like.
Reactionaries see society as a social and moral hierarchy based on identity. They derive their sense of status, power and security from their position in that hierarchy.
For example, the point where the USA right really lost its mind and spiraled towards conspiratorial thinking was when Obama’s election to the highest office in the land shattered the (in this case racial) hierarchy in their heads, and with it their sense of safety.
„Law and order“ is the inverse of that. It’s the notion that violence and cruelty needs to be meted out to people „below“ them or „threatening“ the social hierarchy as they can only feel safe when these people are kept in their place. And because the social hierarchy is also a moral one, that violence and cruelty is always justified. They identify with law enforcement and the military not because of some abstract sense of justice or national security, but because they embody violence and they equate that with the defence of their special status against the people who want to tear it down. Hence why the support violent, cruel and abusive policies, laws and law enforcement practices despite the fact that they don’t work. Their sole purpose is to create the perception of safety for them by making society unsafe for the people they dislike or look down on, because for them those two notions are the same.
And note that, for that purpose, it doesn’t matter that Trump is a criminal and a lunatic. It doesn’t matter that law enforcement acts as his private militia, killing citizens at will. As long as they only hurt those other people, they’ll be OK with it, because they don’t actually want laws that apply to everyone equally. They want laws that protects their safety at the expense of everyone else, and they won’t turn against the violence until it targets them personally. Law and order is therefore a misnomer. They want oppression.
They wanted “the libs” to submit. That’s it. If they meant killing them, fine. It *is* “law and order” to beat the enemies into submission in their mind.
They view ICE shooting protesters as keeping the peace. I don’t think they care much about what Trump gets up to overseas. Their enemy is non-MAGA Americans.
