She’s right. Nothing has been approved that wasn’t already well along in the approvals process, meaning what we’ve seen so far has mostly been for show and is *not* incremental to what would have happened anyway. We need to get moving, yet all evidence so far points to the new bureaucracy Carney created for this not being any more effective than the bureaucracies they bolted it on top of.
And no, the solution is not the provision inserted into the (still unpassed) budget bill which would allow Liberal cabinet ministers to wave a magic “national interest” wand at any projects they select to exempt them from our laws.
First, governments are the *last* entities that should be picking business winners and losers — they are exceptionally bad at that. Second, unequal treatment under the law is a blatantly bad idea. Third, if our legal regime is so bad that the only way we can get anything done is to exempt companies from our laws, then it’s the system that’s broken and needs to be fixed, and no amount of new bureaucracy is going to change that. And finally, fourth, these Liberals have proven to be remarkably incompetent and corrupt. Anyone who can’t see the potential for widespread abuse in giving them the power to unilaterally pick who gets to ignore laws and who doesn’t is being willfully blind.

She has already given up on the north coast, apparently. Her language has changed to Pacific Coast. She has been talking about Robert’s Bank. Maybe she should have started with a request for a pipeline, and then let BC pick the safest route, instead of driving a wedge through the nation.

He should respond to her along the lines of this: Quite privatizing healthcare, fix your corrupt care scandal, listen to ALL of your constituents and once you’ve shown you’re responsible enough to be a Premier, then you can have some input on the nation building you say this pipeline is.

The Major Projects Office is mired in bureaucracy. We need a Really Major Projects Office, and we need it yesterday.
