      If I lived in Montana or Vermont, I would also be contemplating the meaning of life.

      New Mexico native here. NM usually scores high on these terminal degree measurements due to low population (2.1 million) and a high concentration of research scientists at the Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories. Seventeen percent of Los Alamos County residents (population 20,000) have PhDs.

      I suspect this more about the majors offered at Montana State and U of Vermont than anything else
