I find it VERY hard to believe this will actually happen.

This would likely require legislation from Congress or clear regulatory authority issuing enforceable rules. It is not something a president can simply decree without a legal mechanism.
And it would only be for one year, which is something, but not any real change.

Remember when credit card companies did have reasonable interest caps. This would be great for the middle class economy.

As someone who is paying off my last credit card. I hope this is real. Not for me because I’m close but I see the insane trap of paying the minimum. Use responsible ownership of a credit card or don’t get one. Shopping was my dopamine.

I don’t know how aware you are of what Trump has actually been doing. There has been a general trend of giving people and corporations with power, even more power. If this actually happens, I’ll eat my hat.

Trump is full of shit and makes empty promises. This is akin to somene in junior high running for class president that promises Gatorade in the water fountains and free pizza on fridays.
Pretty sure one of the first things Trump did in his second term was to cancel the legislature that would put caps on how much banks could charge in overdraft fees. Trump would never deprive big banks from profits. The real conspiracy is that I’m sure the executives over at JPMorgan Chase, BoA, Capital One, etc did not kiss the ring enough and Trump is trying to strong arm them by threatening this shit.
He’s about to extort credit card companies. Doesn’t give a flying fuck about users.

Why does it even matter if most cards are interest free for the first 12-15 months?
Cap them for 10% the life of the card. 10% interest rate is more than enough for CC companies to make money.

As someone who works at a credit card company, lowering APR would just triple late fee charges. They will get their money somehow.
Cue lots of shiny presents from credit card companies etc to Trump.

If you think this is a good idea you have no idea how the world works. If they capped interest rates, credit card companies would simply not offer credit to high risk customers – the people that need it. These people would then be forced into worse credit like payday loans. It’s the same concept with price controls on food
