Here’s an even weirder twist: Very early in the Twelve Day War, the rumor was that an Israeli airstrike killed Khamenei.
One might wonder why Iran didn’t announce it. It seems Iran only planned a fairly limited–but still quite punishing–missile campaign against Israel. Such an announcement would have been like throwing gasoline on a fire, and who know what kind of hell would have been unleashed.
So I would count these current rumors not only as a psyop, but also a finger in the eye of those faking Khamenei’s continued existence.
