So it’s now the job of every Alamo Drafthouse employee to prowl the theaters and scan the phone usage of the patrons to make sure they’re only using it for placing food orders (allowed), but NOT texting or web browsing (not allowed). Sounds reasonable and not at all contradictory.

Can’t wait for the local Drafthouse to be lit up with phone screens like every other theater.

    2. Ewww no. I was already on the fence about cancelling my membership. This pushed me over the edge. Bye.

I assume they are actually doing this to save money. Horrible decision that will negatively impact the experience of going to Alamo IMO. Then again it might make it easier for the staff to not have to run up and down aisles to retrieve orders.

WAIT – So now I can be on my phone the entire time?! HAHAAHAHAHHAHAHA

    5. Ugh, they were testing this at the last movie we saw, but ONLY for ordering before the film started. Once the lights went down, no phones, and they reverted to taking orders on paper slips. I prefer this, vastly, to allowing people to take their phones out during the movie, and it’s far more distracting than scribbling on a piece of paper under their subtle lights under each tray table. LOOK Dine-In theatres also do mobile ordering only, even during the film, and we basically avoid going because of that, it’s just so much more annoying and encourages people to use their phones during the film. Even if the UI is dark, first you have a lock screen and then the person has to get to the ordering page, and it’s still glowing if it’s an LCD, even with a dark background…

    6. This only applies prior to when the movie starts. Once it starts, it is back to pen and paper with no phone usage.

    7. „Protect the movie going experience.“ by having phones out just to get a refill.
