      I’ve been pointing this out: The position of the Executive is that Article 2 grants the President unilateral authority to control the military. This isn’t even a new position by the Trump administration. Practically every President since forever has held this stance. Trump is simply the first (or at least most recent) to really put it to the test.

      And that’s why the problem isn’t just Trump.

      It’s interesting that MAGA held Trump up as specifically being the candidate that would not engage America in more war. But now that Congress is voting to limit his ability to unilaterally wage war, MAGA is upset.

      If he wasn’t going to start wars in the first place, then what’s the problem with ensuring Trump follows the proper constitutional rules? It shouldn’t matter anyway, right?

      Remember this is a proposed bill that still has to pass congress, and BE SIGNED BY HIM in order to become law. This has incredibly low chances of passing.

      There is zero authority for Trump to run another country. His power is derived from the laws Congress produces. Not his conceived views of how things should be.

      Pretty frustrating how many things are framed as „Republicans vote for X“ when it’s every single democrat + a handful of republicans. Would be nice to see „Some Republicans joined all democrats to vote for X“

      Why do we need a resolution to prevent the president from starting a war when the *FUCKING CONSTITUTION* already does that!? All we need is congress and the courts to use our centuries old founding document to hold the president in check, as they’re supposed to do.
