      >Nine House Republicans bucked their party leaders on Wednesday evening to advance a vote on a Democrat-led healthcare bill.

      >The nine GOP lawmakers‘ support was key to pushing ahead on a vote to extend enhanced Obamacare subsidies that expired at the end of last year. A vote on the bill itself is now expected Thursday afternoon.

      >It’s a blow to Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., who argued for weeks that the majority of House Republicans were opposed to extending the COVID-19 pandemic-era tax subsidies.

      >But a significant number of GOP moderates were frustrated that their party leaders in the House and Senate had done little to avert a price hike for millions of Americans‘ insurance premiums.

      >Four of them signed onto a discharge petition filed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., last month aimed at forcing a vote on extending the subsidies for three years over House GOP leaders‘ objections.

      >A discharge petition is a mechanism for getting legislation considered on the House floor even if the majority’s leadership is opposed to it.

The bill is expected to pass the House on Thursday, but it is all but certain to die in the GOP-controlled Senate.

I’ve lost count, how many discharge petitions this is now? Five? Six? Mike „Avert My Eyes“ Johnson has lost control over his caucus.

So a nice performative no-consequence vote that might help them save their seats in moderate districts.

    3. So Fox doesn’t get more clicks, here’s the list.

Mike Lawler, R-N.Y.; Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa.; Rob Bresnahan, R-Pa.; and Ryan Mackenzie, R-Pa. — were among the nine to vote to advance Jeffries‘ petition on Wednesday.

The other five lawmakers who voted to advance the petition were Reps. Nick LaLota, R-N.Y.; Maria Salazar, R-Fla., David Valadao, R-Calif., Max Miller, R-Ohio, and Tom Kean Jr., R-N.J.

Obamacare has survived more assassination attempts than a movie villain. At this point, it’s basically the Keith Richards of legislation.

Oh look! They realized we go to the polls this year, funny they’re becoming more human now.

    6. PunfullyObvious on

Even if this weren’t just performative, isn’t it to late to matter for anyone that already needed to opt for a high deductible insurance plan since they’d be locked into it?

It might help with what premium they have, but they’ll still be on the hook for their huge deductibles … or am I mistaken?

Or, would this open a new enrollment period?

I assume that anyone who opted out of insurance entirely would be able to go ahead and sign up tho?

    7. Doesn’t it still have to get through the Senate and then get signed by the dumbass?

Nine GOP rebels just joined Dems to drag an Obamacare subsidy bill onto the floor Johnson’s own team cracked the whip on him and the whip snapped

You certainly can’t count on Pennsylvania’s biggest snake, Brian Fitzpatrick.

Now join the chorus of impeachment and get this reckless, feckless orange piece of shit out of our government and safely behind bars where he and his cronies can’t harm more Americans.

Wait, don’t all Republicans think the guy from Louisiana who doesn’t even have a bank account was the best person they had to run congress?

    13. Visual-Pop3495 on

I hope voters will remember how the entire democratic caucus and the brave less than 5% of republicans voted to help them. Evil.

    14. AlsoCommiePuddin on

The problem is that it will absolutely be vetoed, so anything resembling a close vote kills it.

    15. The house will pass it, will die in the Senate. The Senate has not faltered one step in allowing Oompa Lumpa to continue his carnage.

    16. Republicans don’t care if people have health insurance. They’re worried about the upcoming election, and losing.
      thats the only reason.

    17. Only for those 9 republicans to later say they didn’t support Obamacare, they voted to extend Affordable Care Act

    18. does Johnson ever do his job and work for the people (or just himself & Trump)?!!

    19. The_Beardly on

Even if they did vote and pass it…. And even IF the senate passed it without changes, Trump would just veto it.

    20. Its almost as if Republicans have NO plan which is worse than having A plan.

    21. thecockmonkey on

I hope this doesn’t happen. If it does, Trump will get the credit for „saving“ people’s health insurance.

    22. DullCartographer7609 on

Ok cool, we gonna do anything about the gestapo? No? Fuck all of them.

    23. Galactic-Guardian404 on

If it passes, EVERY Republican will take credit for it when begging the public to foolishly send them back to the House in the midterm election.

    24. I like how it’s „defy Mike Johnson“ as opposed to „support a popular program“ or „stick up for their constituents“. And then it’s Obamacare. But when it’s something good, they’ll call it the ‚Affordable Care Act‘.

    25. „Defy“ is a curious choice. They ARE supposed to be their own individuals and vote based on their own preferences no?

    26. Dgnash615-2 on

Stop calling it Obama Care! It’s the Affordable Care Act you jerk. Look at how the same legislation polls when you call it these two names. if you call it Obama Care you are trying to take health care from millions of Americans.
