    1. They always tell you the figure that is currently being spent, but never the figure that we were spending a few years ago just before the invasion of 2022 began. Wonder why…

      > Brussels has pledged to ban imports of Russian LNG – natural gas that is supercooled to make it easier to transport – **by 2027**

      2027.

      And they didn’t ban the oil, they banned access to the ports, meaning Russian supplier has to take the longer route around Asia instead just across the Antartic.

    3. EU fuelling Trump’s and Putin’s wars by importing american and russian natural gas?

      The alternative sources: US, Gulf states, Azerbaijan …. also not very peaceful.
      Hence we need to do 2 things (both equally): reduce our consumption as much as possible, and drill baby drill to get the remainder ourselves and not from somewhere else.

    5. If I remember right, Germany didnt even have infrastructure for LNG until the US got us to build it after the NS2 sabotage. Now we’re trading russian oil for russian gas, probably because the US got us into prohibitively expensive price gouging agreements and locked usbin for years. What a coup.

      Unpleasant truth. Everyone who’s been doing business with russians is complicit.

      >More than 15m tonnes of Yamal LNG was transported through the Arctic ice to reach EU terminals in 2025, according to the human rights NGO Urgewald, earning the Kremlin an estimated €7.2bn.

      This is bad reporting.

      * The ban is for 2027, and it isn’t 2027, isn’t it?
      * Someone blew up Nord Stream, the ten billion euro pipeline and we are using tankers for what remains as we transition away from Russia.
      * We are building up LNG ports to import from the USA at USA prices
      * [From 2021 to 2024 imports reduced 40 %](https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/infographics/where-does-the-eu-s-gas-come-from/)
