Yay! I look forward to the increase in Chinese spies and fake police departments again because Carney has to look the other way in order to „repair relations“.
Canada’s massive. Maybe look inwards for ways to improve the economy instead of playing whack-a-mole with these global superpowers who don’t give a fuck about Canada other than to strip the land barren and suck up the innards for their own causes in these trade deals.
That’s fair, China is far more predictable and less volatile than the US. We should also strengthen trade ties with the EU and other Commonwealth nations. Good business is where you find it, and that isn’t in the US.
The complicating factor is that China is gravitating toward making/accepting payments in the yuan as opposed to the USD or other currencies. We might end up having to stockpile yuan reserves if it keeps up, which means accepting yuan as payment for our goods. If China’s currency collapses then we’ll be in trouble. Of course, I wouldn’t expect to have to do this in this decade, it’s a Future Canada problem.
