> “For “Golden,” Appelhans explained, “our references were a Biggie track called ‘Juicy.’ There was Drake, Eminem, Lil Wayne. Those were songs about starting as nobodies and finding yourself through music.”
This is literally one of the most common themes that has existed across almost every applicable genre of music for decades
Kpop heavily draws from hip hop in general. I think Suga has a song that basically uses the beat from Ol Dirty’s Shimmy Shimmy Ya.
When he did the song live at Lollapalooza he put up an image of Ol Dirty, which is the ultimate way to pay homage.
My only hope is that this newer generation not only looks at the hip hop that inspired current music, but even the music that inspired hip hop. Take it back to the ’70s, to the Legends of r&b and soul. The music my mother raised me on.

I was listening to the new Killer Mike album and I was like, what does this remind me of? We kill it, oh really, you want it, okay

Sounds like it’s referring to the lyrics. The music sounds like a Katy Perry song from her heyday.
