I’ve seen this headline like eight times now over the last six months

    2. Yeah, no shit. The enshittification of the already shitty LLMs has begun.

Glad I never bothered using them and carried on using my brain. AI and Machine learning have great specific applications, general LLMs are a useless autocomplete averageing enging that can’t ever create anything new, only regurgitate whatever they’ve been trained on.

I’d rather shit in my hands and clap than use ChatGPT.

why do they need to test their ads, though? why can’t they just have chatgepetto tell them how effective the ads will be?

    4. JudasHungHimself on

Are they gonna cleverly add the ads to answers and make the answers even less trustworthy than they already are?

    5. Saw that coming from the start, and if you didn’t you just didn’t bother to read up on recent history.

    6. It’s not like this wasn’t predictable. AI companies are in a squeeze to monetize as efficiently as possible. Not only will they employ ads directly with paid services but they’ll handle the ad tracking features as well.

    7. What, gonna recommend me products in my prompts? Product placement in my results? Make me drink a verification can?

    8. So we’re talking about manipulating the text that comes out of the prompt, right? in ways that huge portions of the user base won’t be aware is happening. You’ll be nudged to buy this or that, or think this or that way about political campaigns.

People are using these tools for _therapy_?! Right? that’s the level of trust they’re assigning.

And now they’re going to be conversationally encouraged in the direction of paying, yet invisible, customers. There is no regulation on this. There is no telling what they have to disclose regarding who’s paying and manipulating the responses.

It’s a scary world ahead we can’t come up with _some_ kind of societal control on this.

    9. Of course. Ads. Why the fuck is the objective ALWAYS to sell more ads? Is it really that much profitable or do companies follow this only when they run out of ideas to make more money?

Already cancelled my subscription. Expensive, shitty, slow, unreliable and buggy. Post GPT-5 it is just garbage, if they enshitify it further with ads and other bs even more users will leave.

And then your job mandates you to use AI and now you have to be fed ads so you can pay your housing costs and not end up on the street. Sweet future we’ve built

So is this shoehorning adds into the interface, amending the answer based on advertisers preferred response, or both?

If it’s amending responses will there be a notification of when the answer has been altered to accommodate advertisers and who the advertiser(s) are? Most likely not.

      >reportedly

Look there’s a big fat NDA preventing me from saying who, but this is already a thing. We even internally cut off use of one AI company, because they’re working with a competitor instead.

Well, it’s already started for me yesterday when it gave me couple of brands and shopping links for my probiotics question.

I immediately closed it with a disgust like a reflex though.

    16. Not surprised. Many people called this.

Now whether or not these ads are going to be in the paid subscription plans is the real question.

    17. Finally! Hey, OpenAI, there is no need to limit this to employees at the start. Just go whole hog and get us the ads we crave. Make sure to obfuscate them just enough that I might start reading them before realizing it’s even an ad.

Use this call like a gun on my head… But in final i will please that chatGPT become the new empty facebook XD

Wow every Reddit comment is going to be full of ads now.

Maybe the change will be refreshing though, like the cool, crisp taste of Coca Cola™?

This is wholly stupid, especially when they’re in the midst of getting killed by Gemini at the moment.

    22. Well yea, of course the worst thing humanity has created in nearly a century will be filled with ads

    23. RollingDownTheHills on

People should be getting ready to not use and rely on this piece of useless garbage tech.

      >Over the holidays, The Information reported that OpenAI is indeed considering different types of ads, including prioritizing sponsored content in AI answers.

      >“AI models could prioritize sponsored content to ensure it shows up in ChatGPT responses,“ the report noted.

      This would be fucked up.
