Too bad they landed on my „boycot“ list. Oh well.

I had a Dell studio xps 16 over a decade ago. Granted, it was expensive, but it lasted close to 7 years before it finally gave out. It had the capabilities of a gaming laptop without the weight or bulkiness of one.
Not just Dell, but the reason these traditional pc manufacturers lost so much marketshare is due to their pricing, lack of quality, and lack of options.
Pc building is a market with dozens of competitors for every part that each have dozens of different specs/customization. These manufacturers clearly lost to enthusiasts and gaming crowds to self builds. Laptops, on the other hand, are consumer foolproof in that they’ll never be able to build their own. Killing their enthusiast line of xps is just another blunder Dell has made.

Correction: It made many huge mistakes. The only thing the company does right is offering reasonably well-priced monitors, the PC lineup is, was, and always will be a dumpster fire.

Misleading title (again): nowhere in the article does Dell admit that it made a huge mistake when it abandoned XPS.

Dell’s business is massive in the consumer space, but its core business is in the corporate space and while everyone thought this was a bad decision, no one left Dell on the corporate side because of a model rebranding.
So sure Timmy, you got upset and left because the one model you buy every 5-7 years got renamed, but that didn’t make any significant impact to their bottom line.
For those in the corporate space, they are bringing back the 3000, 5000, 7000 series as well, it just hasn’t been announced yet.
