      I don’t see what substantial difference this makes to the victims.

      It works because a lot of them are already scammers, so there’s really little difference.

      At this point in society and social media you can’t believe anything you see or receive. Friend got a condolence message from his pastor and his mom passed away. It was spam and hacked his entire address book. He’s spent weeks trying to undo damage.

      People are so inventive. This would be so easy to do for so many because the people the pastors are preaching to are gullible and easy to persuade to believe the most ridiculous ideas

      I want to say that the money not going to the intended pastors probably causes less damage in the long run.

      Go figure that ai is replacing even scam call centers.

      We knew it was coming but the level of ai that can impersonate other people or loved ones is going to be horrifying on the vulnerable.

      Your elderly relatives will give their life savings away to Facebook impersonating as a chatbot of a deceased relative or some black hat / scammer will fool them.

      Church congregations will definitely fall for this too. They already have hard time with reality and magical thinking.

      That’s awful. People go to church to develop a close spiritual relationship with their scammers. A person’s bond with their chosen scammer is sacred and it’s reprehensible for others to take advantage of that!
