I heard of this before. Apparently some Places had these a while ago. But looks like Coop implemented them everywhere now

one mor reason to avoid coop, you said it. I know their marketing department, and they are malignantly greedy

    3. Yup, that is something new. 40% are still a better deal than the full price.
But it feels shady when you think about the slogan: „Verwenden statt Verschwenden“.
Since now a lot probably will be just thrown away cause people will not like that the „discount“ is now less than 50%.

      20% und 40% respektive

      anstatt 25/50

This is crazy! It was helping to reduce food waste to discount things! Why would they knock up margins on shit they will just throw away at the end of the day.

ETA: they already had a 25% sticker too..

It is now for many many months.
No surprise here. Sorry and unfortunately.

And one of the reason is that they have now regular offers of 50%discount or two for one. So in a marketing guy’s brain this is a conflict.

    7. But they give discount earlier… So 10% less but you can get it not only on the date it expires

Just stop buying rediced stuff so they have to switxh back, thanks

Funnily enough I’ve never seen them do 50% here, maybe a local thing?

Its funny how during the pandemic Coop was better than Migros and now I changed to Migros instead. Overall meat prices are a bit better in Migros, and they have nice and cheap BBQ-relates stuff that I can toss in the airfryer

    11. In my old local Coop they realised people regularly checked the meat section for discounts, so they swapped the 50% for 30%, and then I don’t know if for fun but they sometimes had some random stickers like 23% lol.

    12. In Bern and Neuchatel they freeze meat on the last day before expiry and still offer it at 50% at least this week it was still there.

if it means that the discount starts earlier then I can accept it

    14. GasIllustrious743 on

Yep. We were informed. But we were also told, that these reductions will be done during the day now, as before this happend only shortly before closing down for the day.

Avoid Coop, Migros and Denner & shop at Lidl and Aldi. Let them fail and close for all I care….
Swiss supermarts don’t give a damn about the people. They reduced their staff by like 70% with Auto-checkout counters. Unemployment is at an all time high, Wages of the employed people has been stagnant for a decade where as the cost of living (rent, health insurance, inflation) has skyrocketed.
Better buy at Lidl/Aldi or even better if you could drive to Konstanz and do your weekly shopping.

Didnt they justify it because now they will put the 40% Stickers on the products much earlier than the 50% stickers which only got used in the last few hours before closing?

    17. LesserValkyrie on

I remember when I raided shops for meat at 50%, I only bought that kind of meat at very specific times during the week, and it helped me for years

Now it’s 10% or 20% if you are lucky

They prefer to throw it away I guess

    18. Cheap_Explorer_6883 on

A small Coop over here once was throwing fresh focaccie away. They were doing 50% but then they realized many people were doing groceries 10 mins before. They stopped. Ive asked if i could purchase those focaccie at 50%, they said no and kept putting them in trash bag

    19. Only now? The switch from 50% and 25% discounts to 40% and 20% happened 1-2 years ago in my local Coop. I was actually surprised to meet 50% stickers in a Coop in canton ZH in mid-2025, as I expected the change to have affected all (non-Pronto) Coops simultaneously. I didn’t like this move either, feels cheap. Now, that being a reason to avoid Coop? No: Migros only does -33% (I’ve noticed them moving over the years from -50% to -40% to -33%), and I’ve seen lots of -20% in Aldi and Lidl…

About a year ago, Coop Pronto also suddenly replaced all its 50% discounts by 25%. This more radical move was upsetting enough for me to write [a Reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/1hiu5sv/25_discounts_instead_of_50_in_coop_pronto/) about it. The move probably resulted in people buying a lot less of discounted products because they have since reverted it and it’s all 50% again now.

I personally think this strategy is genius for them because my brains always thinks “well 40% off is basically the same as 50% off and that’s a bargain!”

    21. LostEconomist1135 on

And I will stop buying %40 , better for my account and my health😃
