Europe must insist on unequivocal unity in this case! And the current leaders of the U.S.‘ childish diplomacy needs to be taught a lesson.

  2. Trump’s actions are within the law of the strong, not the international law, so condemning and loud mouths doesn’t work here, military deterrence does.

  3. They could make a statement right now that he understands and jointly sell off all of their US treasuries.

  4. I think Europe and the rest of the world need more than a strongly worded letter here.

  5. DingoCertain on

Ah yes, problem solved. Trump will for sure care about international order and countries sovereignty.

  6. ZealousidealYam896 on

America has the leader they deserve. Trump is a fair reflection of an American. Loud, obnoxious, arrogant, racist and the genuine belief that everything they do is for the „greater good“. Well done USA!

  7. Ironclad_Cat_1773 on

If they really believe that: Cancel the lease for the military bases AND get some warheads there asap

  8. Statements like this are why bullies keep advancing.
“*We live by the law and the law should be respected*” usually brings nothing but laughter and ignites even more excitement in the bully, as it reveals a completely different way of looking at the same situation. The bully does not care about the law and relies on power and domination, while the victim looks them in the eyes and tries to negotiate.

This is a laughable and miserable statement. For a bully to stop before doing anything, a slap is needed – not soft talk. Or at least show your teeth.

  9. They could brand the US as a terrorist nation and impose sanctions, also cut all ties with. But that’s never going to happen.

What is Marco Rubio thinking during all of this? South America is one thing, but invading NATO and ending it would SURELY be a line crossed for him?

  11. KooQanon-LMAOOO on

US = Russia of the west

They are forging a cold /hybrid war against the EU akin to Russia“s

I’m terrified people do not recognize this

It’s their open policy to dismantle the EU

They are a threat, please open your eyes!

The EU needs to change policies and invest aggressively and heavily in tech, especially AI, space, military and intelligence, starting yesterday

  12. Them saying Greenland belongs to its people is basically sending Greenland right into Trumps hands, as he believes the people of Greenland are week and dumb and need to be colonized by his majesty himself.

  13. Calgary_dude2025 on

He does not care about any country’s sovereignty. Simply saying something to this regime will not work. The EU needs to stipulate what could happen should the US take Greenland by force. A significant impact on economic relations between the US and the EU including cancellation of current and future contracts to US companies for starters. Cancel F-35 contracts! If all else fails the EU can always kick US troops out of the continent.

Folks we’re fast approaching a stage where there’s no love lost been the Americans and the rest of the world. Its time everyone said F U to these guys to their face! They can’t eat their guns and military hardware for food now, can they? Openly threaten 100% tariffs on US *anything*! They need the rest of the world for their survival.

  14. Trump doesn’t give a shit. If he takes Greenland who’s going to stop him?

  15. HammerInTheSea on

This is so ridiculous that the first time this came up, I just assumed it was clickbait based on out-of-context quotes.

I was disappointed, but not surprised to learn that Trump really is deranged enough to think this is even remotely acceptable to even suggest as an idea.

  16. A minority of Americans has unleashed a narcissist, demented, pedophile on the planet. If I wrote this as a movie script it would be rejected as non-realistic.

  17. Status-Highlight-820 on

Europe needs a large military prescence there immediately since that’s all Orange dipshit understands.

  18. Cosmic_Seth on

Absolutely meaningless unless they start to shore up Greenland’s defense.

If not, just cut to the chase and just give it up.

  19. AMoonMonkey on

It’s all well and good saying that but Trump and his administration clearly don’t give a shit and are under the impression they can do what they please as nobody will stop them.

Something serious needs to be done and it needs to be done now.

  20. Big_Possibility5156 on

Denmark/Greenland needs a shit load of nukes.

Ukraine gave up theirs and look what happened…

As an Australian with Ukrainian with heritage I even worry about my own country. Fuck it I think Australia/nz/europe/canada/japan/South Korea should be all have a nuclear deterrent. We probably should be supplying them to the South Pacific nations as well.

  21. right_wingr10 on

Trump may single handedly rip NATO apart if he decides to „run“ Greenland. I really don’t understand what MAGA crowd sees in him to still support him

  22. Words are just that, words. Despite how strongly worded the rhetoric is.

What concrete assurances have European leaders given to help Denmark/ Greenland defend their sovereignty if the USS decides to just take it like they took Maduro?

  23. Europe (with Danes benediction) need to send a few troops immediately in Greenland.

Small batches of French/German/Italian/whatever to „help“ the Danes keep Greenland „secure“ (as Trump says it is not secure enough). Send missiles and military equipment, not too much, just enough.

    This has the advantage of:

    – replying to trump’s suggestion that greenland is not secured by real, irrefutable (legitimate) action
    – put troops of all origins on land in a peaceful manner. If Trump is foolish enough to attack, then the entire Europe has reason to retaliate and escalate. Nato or not.

  24. Fun_Huckleberry4385 on

This the smoke and mirrors that Russia told useful idiot to implement…. Keep your eyes on Ukraine , the Epstein files , The Tesla idiot who is going against civil liberties and more so against Europe.

  25. Own-Lemon8708 on

Maybe Europe and Greenland should kick all the American military bases out of their countries?

  26. Ok-Fill-6758 on

Build out a futuristic advanced European society to further amplify how dystopian America has become.

  27. New_Economist_9815 on

The only thing America understands as a deterrent is nuclear weapons.

  28. No_Cow_7234 on

Imagine the day, where danish troops will open fire against invading american troops in Nuuk.
The world as we know it would end. And stock markets too.

  29. Trump aint gonna do shit about this.

If he does its the end of US in NATO.
Meaning the US don’t have friends left to face China/Russia/North Korea in the future.

It will have a huge impact on the global economy if it happened and you can goodbye to the dollar since nobody in the world want to do anything with a backstabbing country like the US.

Greenland was given back to Denmark right after WW2. During WW2 the US occupied it to keep it save and defeat the germans there.

US is not the only nuclear country in the world.

  30. Here’s the cronology:

    US deploys troops on Greenland

EU ordering their troops to „fallback and not shoot an ally or cause unecessary deaths“.

    Greenland gets annexed

EU sends a strongly worded letter about history and alliances

NATO and EU do nothing because the Status Quo is too confortable. Denmark is thrown under the bus.

    US threathens the next country

  31. Cautious-Yak-8083 on

Hey since we are ok with capturing criminal presidents…. EU can you help us out? Pretty sure you guys can indict Trump for breaking international law.

  32. discipleofdoom on

Saying you uphold the „principles of the UN Charter, including sovereignty, territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders“ after you just celebrated America invading a foreign country and kidnapping their president is certainly a take. Not sure how effective all that cheering is going to be at making Trump think twice about Greenland.

  33. I’ll be 30 this year and eh…. I really don’t have any future to look forward to anymore, do I?

  34. ZhiyongSong on

Greenland isn’t a line item on a property sheet, and annexation threats aren’t “toughness,” they’re imperial cosplay. Self‑determination matters, especially for Inuit communities and Arctic security. Credit to Europe for speaking up—respect the people, the land, and the rules. Real strength is playing by them.

  35. OK, but how serious is Europe? You know what it’s gonna take to stop it from happening and you also know they won’t stop at just Greenland.

  36. They are actually going to do this. I think people need to get ready to accept that. Hopefully this is the act that begins a revolt in the US. I’m a cop. But I’m giving all that up and taking to the streets if this happens. Fuck Donald Trump.

  37. I think Canada 🇨🇦 should make a stand with one of the longest standing NATO members.

And our only spat was a “whiskey war” over Hans island 🏝️: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whisky_War

So yeah. Here’s how you win over hearts and minds and come to a nice diplomatic compromise.

I don’t think dropping off unsold shipping containers of US bourbon is likely to assist in the current poisoned political climate. – It probably wouldn’t hurt.

Declaring annexation of any sovereign country is in poor form.

  38. PoolOfAmnesiac on

People of the US need to take to the streets NOW and protest in massive numbers. Seriously, if the US takes Greenland, it’s an attack on a NATO ally. NATO would fall apart, and Russia and China would be free to begin their new world order – why wouldn’t Russia immediately drop an A-bomb in Ukraine? Shit, I’m scared as hell to be honest, and I’m normally not too nervous about world politics. No one can do anything and I genuinely think that the ONLY thing that would make an impression on Trump if that it became abundantly clear that the vast majority of his own voters do not support his race to begin WW3. (At least, I hope they don’t). We can’t do shit in Europe, so please please please do something in the US.
