Lol, Maduro gets nicked and now Congress is like “power, what power?” 😅 Gotta love the consistency, or lack thereof.

    2. This is the most important thing here.

World War II was a fantastic lesson into American restraint. In that war, there was an objectively bad side (Nazis and Japan,) and yet the US did not preemptively enter the war. They debated, they acted how the constitution wanted them to, and they only entered when attacked. That is what is SUPPOSED to happen. They exhibited constitutional discipline.

But now, a President can choose to unilaterally bomb a country they don’t like. 9/11 severely degraded the constitution through the AUMF.

With the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro — and assertion that the US is now “going to run” the country —President Donald Trump dramatically raised the stakes of his long-running disregard of Congress and assertions of executive power.

The new action initially appeared likely to bring a familiar response: acquiescence or outright support from a Republican-led Capitol. If that holds, it will mark another major step in Trump’s long-running effort to accumulate authority, with potentially global consequences, as a passive Congress cedes ground.

While Democrats and a small number of Republicans reacted to the dramatic raid Saturday morning by saying the administration had intentionally misled lawmakers and potentially thrown the US into an armed conflict without proper authorization, most Republicans celebrated the downfall of a despised autocrat and backed Trump’s actions.

We stand to stand in front of our capital United and let them see everyone WHO THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO REPRESENT. Protest across different cities isn’t sending the right message

It only gets worse from here. Trump and his cabinet will continue to do whatever they want because Congress, nor the Supreme court, are going to stop them.

Is China allowed to take Taiwan now? Even if they promise to do it quick?

This just in…..Mike Johnson still doesn’t know anything about it and can’t comment.

    8. What’s bgov? A lot of bizarre random URLs getting posted here I’ve never heard of

Raise the stakes? Why weren’t the stakes high when congress abdicated power in the first place?

Just wait until we see all the Trump adjacent people suddenly on the boards of companies getting contracts for oil refinery and security there. Gonna make Cheney look like child’s play.

Seems like they should impeach and convict him finally.

      Unless they have no balls.

      Get it right.

No they don’t. Congress willingly gave over that power long ago. Knowing the mission was both successfully at the goal and no US troops appear to have been harmed, there will be no appetite to claw it back now. The worst you’ll get is a „I disagree with not consulting us, but must praise the skill of our armed forces in completing this dangerous and complex task.“

I feel like no one is talking about or caring about how many Venezuelan civilians and military personnel were killed? These soldiers weren’t at war and were literally murdered by a foreign power just because they happened to be employed by the military and happened to be stationed at high priority targets at the wrong time.

Well, what’s the point of Congress and the Supreme Court now? Best to let them continue and have their little leaders squabble now and then – allows them to think their role is important and has some significance when even the man-in-the-street knows he’s living under a dictatorship.

“One of the most precise attacks on sovereignty,” Trump said today.

I mean, congress and the SC have been effectively gelded and they did it to themselves

I like how barely a week ago everyone on this sub was SO DAMN SURE Trump was „finished“ for realsies this time because MTG was speaking against him and a few special elections ended in favor of Democrats. So damn sure that „rats were fleeing the ship“ and „Trump is losing power.“

And now here we are, invading a sovereign nation for no other reason than wanting their resources, and everyone is just throwing their hands up immediately in defeat.

    19. I remember when you got congressional approval before you invaded a country for oil, now whatever Trump wants to do he does.

      *Republican-controlled Congress

They are choosing to abdicate power in the hopes of avoiding potential Democrat filibusters and having to compromise on legislation.

Maduro’s lawyers should check to see if he is a pedophile. It may be his only shot at freedom.

    22. American voters have abdicated their responsibility to vote for any change. Collectively, *if* we bother to vote, we re-elect the same people over and over. Somehow, we think if we do, things will get better.

    23. No Congress has ever been so subservient to a President as this one. Even FDR struggled to get parts of the New Deal passed.
