    > Venezuela on Saturday demanded an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the US attacks on the country, amid uncertainty over the whereabouts of President Nicolas Maduro.

    > „Faced with the criminal aggression committed by the US government against our homeland, we have requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council, which is responsible for upholding international law,“ Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil wrote on the Telegram messaging platform.

The US is one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, and has veto rights, along with the other 4 permanent members (China, Russia, UK, and France)

Any attempts to ask for help or sanctions under the UN will result in an automatic veto by the US.

  3. Honestly, what’s the expectation they’re going to get from this? People will kick the US out of the UNSC? Sanctions? There will be no consequences outside of lip service

    „Venezuela“

Are you talking about the now former regime or the currently forming transitional unity government that’s going to ensure the next election winner doesn’t get arrested like Maduro’s junta did because they were so unpopular they could barely win an election they rigged?

Who is going to defend them? Russia already has their hands full China is itching for Taiwan with your excuse

    Who is *seeking* it?

Trump and his oil buddies are running the place now, right?

  7. Waste of time as long as the US remains the de facto leader of the Security Council and can veto any resolution they want without making any excuse for themselves.

It was clear after Iraq invasion over so called WMD – the UN might as well disbanded. US doesn’t adhere to rules ie: International Criminal Court… so why start now?

UK will be scared to say anything against the US as always.

USA will veto anything against them

The rest will voice their negative opinions and move on.

Biggest takeaway from this is it simply shows China that they may as well carry out attacks in Taiwan and if anyone says anything, they can just point at what Trump did today.

  10. Didn’t mention Delcy Rodriguez and the remaining cabinet seeking this meeting are now in Russia seeking asylum. Making their argument null in the face of the UN

Unfortunately the US has veto power so it literally not gonna matter even if literally every country except the US condemned kr

  12. The UN still hasn’t done anything about Ukraine or many other ongoing situations with significantly more bloodshed, zero chance they’d do anything here even without the US veto.

US has veto in the security council. Also Russia is busy dealing with Ukraine and China is working on invading Taiwan. No one actually cares about Maduro

I think one of the goals is to scare off the drug lords to stop sending drugs to the US. But these thugs make a living out of that. They probably can only be dealt with the hard way.

Guess we all forgot about the human rights violations and election fraud…
