Only speaking for myself but I do have an appetite for movie theaters. Just in recent years a lot of movies don’t interest me. An occasional one here and there brings me out still.
I just notice a lot of movies are either overly artistic/deep and not exactly what I am looking for in terms of entertainment or they are brain dead and won’t hold my interest. I want to see more movies blend entertainment and simple interesting ideas/concepts but still with emotional depth too.

It’s the cost over $60+ for two and the 45+mins of advertising on top of previews and theater psa . It’s become an uncomfortable experience. I rather be home so I’m not holding my bladder for dear life.

Let see how fast the typical “I can get snacks at home and I don’t have to endure loud people” crowd comes

Speaking for myself, I’m just sick to death of seeing people constantly glancing at their phones or having a very audible conversation like they’re in their living rooms.

Appetite is the right word for it Leo. I can’t stomach spending over $100 for a family of four to watch a movie. Every single movie released today could be The Godfather-esque, and I’m still only going to the theatre once every six months.

My local theaters keep adding amenities like full bars, posh sitting areas, recliner seats, waitstaff and food menus…
And that’s all great, but when you charge me $18 for a pint of Blue Moon I’m not inclined to go back.
Especially when my insurance payments just tripled. The economy is brutal and getting worse.

Went to the Stranger Things finale on NYE. Was awesome to be in a sold out theatre with people who were genuinely excited to be there to watch the show. Haven’t seen that going to the movie theatre in quite some time (although I don’t normally go on opening weekends anymore).

Bunch of people just went and saw Stranger Things…maybe we need new movie stars

Too many adds before the film starts and price of concessions are the deal breakers. A film that is 90 minutes ends up being 2 hours by the time commercials are done.

I don’t mind the ads before the movie starts, I don’t mind the trailers, I don’t even mind the concession prices, because quite frankly I don’t have to eat every 2 hours. What I’m really sick of is theater etiquette is completely gone. People have their bright screens on in a dark theater, they check their messages they take phone calls, they act like they’re in their living room. There’s no etiquette at all anymore

I love going to the theater. I don’t love 30 minutes of previews. The price of snacks is reasonable compared to how it used to be, but the idea that I have to add an extra half hour to my movie going experience is unacceptable

I loved going to the movies from the late 80s up until a few years ago. I don’t wanna sit through twenty minutes of commercials and the rudest people alive around me talking and being on their phones.

I do, but it’s not getting easy. From theatres that are in desperate need of repair and upgrades, to scumbag people who just want to talk and doom scroll, the argument for spending a good amount on a movie ticket diminishes.

It’s become more possible to get yourself a complete theater experience at home and for many that is a lot better than sitting in a room full of annoying, loud and obnoxious strangers that don’t respect theater etiquette.

Look at stuff like Weapons, Sinners, Jurassic World, Final Desintation, Avatar. People will come if its a spectacle or good.

I’d LOVE to visit cinemas more often! Why don’t I? It’s not cost.
It’s people.
It’s talking. It’s seeing phone screens from the corner of my eye.
That’s why I rarely visit the cinema.

Cheap UHD TVs, surround sound, a full library of films at my finger tips where I can sift through 100 years of film making or wait for the next installment of super hero bullshit. Tough choices.

I have an OLED and 7.1 system. It’s a better setup than any of the theaters in my area. I’m good watching at home.

That’s exactly what I think. Less and less people I know go to the movies because they know that most of the stuff is eventually gonna be on streaming. And at home, you’re more comfortable and it costs you less.
So although I understand the frustration with what Netflix said about the 17 days for WB movies in theaters, I think that we’re just at a point where it’s just a matter of time before movie theatres die out completely. This generation of kids don’t go to the theatre anymore.

Why do anything in realty anymore? I’d rather just lay on the couch and never leave. Experiences don’t matter.
