Bok! Ich bin Amerikanerin, 38 Monate alt, und habe gerade angefangen, mit einem Kroaten, 42 Jahre alt, auszugehen. Während unseres Date-Abends gestern Abend schenkte sie mir einen traditionellen Licitar, den ihr Vater ihr von zu Hause mitgebracht hatte. Ich lernte so viel wie möglich über das kroatische Erbe und nahm alle Informationen auf, die ich auf den Keksen finden konnte. Sie erzählte mir, wie sie aufwuchs und Plätzchenornamente herstellte, nur um sie dann zu essen, bevor sie an den Baum gehängt wurden lol. Seit ich sie zum ersten Mal traf, fertige ich für sie Origami-Kunstwerke an. Ich hatte also gelesen, dass es traditioneller ist, dass der Mann der Frau etwas gibt. Ich habe mein eigenes Licitar gemacht. Es besteht aus Papier, nicht aus Keksen. Und es muss Luft hineingeblasen werden, um es dreidimensional zu machen. Würde dies auf einen gebürtigen Kroaten als Licitar übergehen?

I don’t know much about this tradition, but the thought you put into making her something that’s part of her culture with your own two hands will definitely warm her heart. I felt the love all throughout this post. She’s going to love it, guaranteed!
You can write anything inside the heart. Like her name.
It’s not a real licitar because the word refers to sweet cookie coloured by natural colours and glazed with this really thick sugar paste and to people who make those products in that one. Once baked and decorated, they last for eons. You don’t really eat them at that point. But they are used for decoration.
Google licitarsko srce and you can check out the designs of the hearts, etc. A lot of those have little mirrors glued to them so when you give someone that sort of heart, they’ll see their reflection inside the heart.
Just tell her you were insipired by licitarsko srce to make her an origami one. She’ll (probably) appriciate it. It’s really a cute gift. 🙂
