We can all sit here and clown on Coach Tommy all we like, but the fact is that there is an enormous population of Americans who believe that an elected official must be sworn in on the bible. They do not understand that the Bible is not a fundamental part of the oath of office for any elected official in the united states. In fact, it’s not mentioned at all in any oath of office (edit: at least at the federal level)

 And I would wager that this belief, while it is certainly going to be more prevalent among conservatives, is not in any way limited to them. There are going to be a huge number of Democrats who believe that as well.
