What’s the exhibit? I don’t trust tweets. Sounds like there’s some missing context, even if the exhibit was controversial or offensive.

Sounds made up. Do you people just fully believe anything in a random Tweet like this? That actually explains a lot.

Reading someone’s tweet who isn’t stating how the Smithsonian equated those things to “evil characteristics” is not helpful…

The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture recently unveiled guidelines for talking about race. A graphic displayed in the guidelines, entitled „Aspects and Assumptions of Whiteness in the United States,“ declares that rational thinking and hard work, among others, are white values.

In the section, Smithsonian declares that „objective, rational, linear thinking,“ „quantitative emphasis,“ „hard work before play,“ and various other values are aspects and assumptions of whiteness.

I think this is what they’re talking about. This is linked from a Reddit years ago talking about it. There isn’t really an implication that these cultural norms are inherently bad or that they only apply to racially white people, I dunno man. Also this was an infographic they shared about race not necessarily an “exhibit”. https://preview.redd.it/cr31itzgf3b51.png?width=799&format=png&auto=webp&s=eb91b6651d37687a18d7f7f681359c181c44fee3&app_web_view=ios

Common law? British Common Law is something seen across the Anglosphere. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s not something universal among white people globally.

Objective, rational thinking? That doesn’t seem to be something any society does at scale. Covid-19 would have been treated like a cold if so.

Respect for authority? 60s cultural revolution, BLM riots, Portland.

Christianity? That would be nice, we have some of that. Also a lot of televangelist heretics, agnostics, atheists, new agers and Freemasons.

Having at least 2 children? Isn’t that just everyone throughout all of human history?

Ya’ll definitely haven’t taken a university level Sociology class if you can’t understand what any of this means from an academic perspective.

Being proud of how much melanin you have or lack is weird af.

You’re white? Good for you, are you a good person? Yes? Hugs my brother/sister. No? Straight to jail.

You’re brown? Good for you, are you a good person? Yes? Hugs my brother/sister. No? Straight to jail.

You’re black? Good for you, are you a good person? Yes? Hugs my brother/sister. No? Straight to jail .

Full disclosure: the folks whose skin color is their entire reason for „being proud“ would call me a POC/invader, and that kumbaya shit don’t work, well motherfuckers you elected the people that are bankrolled by the people who are very very interested in ensuring that kumbaya shit don’t work.

It’s so sad how easy it is to rile up us whities. Start to question Trump? Better send out the Twitter bots to stoke a race war so they fall back in line.

      Pathetic.

    10. This sounded completely made up but there is a small kernel of truth here then a bunch of misinformation piled on top. This was not exhibit, it was an online portal that’s goal was to educate and start conversations about race. There was no physical exhibit at the actual museum. It’s was not a list of evils but a list of what “white culture” has brought to the table. It was taken down after politicians and talking heads on the right took it out of context. Whats funny is these are same talking points the right uses about race all the time. Pundits on the right could have argued “look what white culture has brought you! The Smithsonian even says so!” But that’s not what happened. They used it as rage bait like this.
Coming from the perspective of left, this “exhibit” is incredibly problematic. Thousands of years of human history before “white people” were even a thing they are somehow attributed with creating the ideas of “logic”, “hard work=success”, “the family unit” and “personal responsibility”? I’m calling bullshit on that one.

      That tweet is disinformation.

The poster didn’t say anything about the traits being evil. That’s just a blatant lie that was intended to escalate social tension. Stay the hell off Twitter. It’s a cesspool of hatred and bots trained to feed you more racist bullshit like this.

Race is a social construct. Both „blackness“ and „whiteness“ are just examples of racist beliefs being perpetuated. I read the poster like I read a philosophical concept. It’s just a theory someone came up with and they’re presenting it as if it’s not just a theory. As if it’s a fact.

Race is a pseudoscience because we all share a common ancestor known as mitochondrial Eve. The only genuine „white“ person is an albino that has no skin pigment. And guess how many African albinos there are.

Nobody can prove race is anything other than a social construct that is based on opinions-not objective facts.

    12. Folks, if you’re interested in conspiracies and not this obvious ragebait bullshit, just block MazdaProphet. He’s like 50/50 at best with these daily posts.

    13. The fact that you’re showing us a tweet and not the exhibit is leading me to believe it’s very likely this isn’t true

This is literally just an infographic of the patriarchal societal control manual and exactly why society has become exactly as fractured as it is right now. It’s a brilliant societal control tactic which is why empire has always loved it. In reality it never really benefits anyone aside those very very few at the very very top. But it keeps the men in the mines working hard for their corporate daddies, told to be grateful for the crumbs tossed from above, and to fill up the rest of their bellies with the illusion that if they work hard enough that they’ll ever really be able to get ahead or reach the top. It gets the citizens to police each other, control each other and fall in line as they have been told to by them empire. Basically saves the oligarchs a Ton of work.

OP is spamming subs with either right-wing talking points or culture war bullshit. This no different. The actual source (provided by others) and the context in which it appears makes it very clear it was just a summary of „white“ culture (the culture that has arisen in europe and USA over history) as compared to black culture in other regions of the world. No one has tried to say this is evil. It is just stating facts and viewpoints.

I hate how over time Christianity got labeled as a white religion. 70% of Christians are non white.

    17. Fair_Blood3176 on

      WHITENESS?

Jesus Christ, seemingly every online person pretends to be a follower of Martin Luther King’s teachings yet the single most important of them „Judge not by the color of their skin, but the CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER“ is completely disregarded.

And it’s always a white female looking avatar making posts like this. This shit is infuriating

    18. CapitalEmployer on

I’m fascinated with right-wing people they take a thing, completely change it’s meaning and reinvent 90% of that thing and then get absolutely outraged about the imaginary thing they just created.

They are litteraly just rage baiting themselves again and again because they can’t live without being outraged.

    19. steel-monkey on

There is nothing in the infographic that calls the characteristics „evil.“ it appears to be a collection of conservative WASP beliefs that have existed since at least the 1980s
