Criteria
In order to qualify for the list, the photograph needs to have a Wikipedia article specifically about it. This does mean some truly iconic photographs can’t be measured. For example, the photo of Muhammad Ali over Sonny Liston features in many top photographs list, but is included in the Wikipedia article about the match and does not have its own article. For the most part though, the most recognizable photographs have their own article on Wikipedia. Here is the map of where the Top 20 photographs were taken:
