And also a lot of fighter jets, nukes, soldiers etc.
But politicians have to sell the idea of a weak EU, otherwise „let’s support Ukraine because it’s the only thing between us and ruskies“ becomes moot.

This is a bit wrong. I believe it was revealed recently that Canada had something like 10 operational MBTs in the entire country. And I believe they gave 2 to Ukriane

Why does Greece have so many?

I am a big supporter of European Defense….. but these numbers dont even look that good
Other than the US, the top 2 countries are Greece and Turkey, and their tanks are….
1. Pointed at each other, not Russia
2. Often kinda old. Similar to Russia, these 2 nations have large stockpiles of cold war era equipment
After those 3 countries its a pretty big drop off

This chart does not support this claim. Poor Greece having more tanks than the richest countries in Europe is embarrassing.

Tanks in country does not equal functional tanks with a stack of spare parts and the required infrastructure to keep them working.
Tanks are nice but just one part of the very complex ecosystem of war fighting, they are an expendable asset and large quantities are needed. Once You get past the USA, Turkey anad Greece you can see the numbers are pathetic.
Turkey and Greece are full of very old tanks, still useful for a lot of things but old is still old.
This isn´t a win at all.

Those numbers are suspect. The USA has about 2500 operational tanks, the rest are in storage and would need varying amounts of effort to make them operational. They are not assigned to any operational unit.

Yeah, on paper Europe looks stacked, but a lot of that “firepower” is old kit, low readiness and fragmented logistics. Maybe compare ammo stockpiles and maintenance levels next?
