Chappell Roan is very talented but she seems like a huge Trumper.

      >!she also looks like she smells!<

    2. I don’t think many were that aware of Bardot’s views they just had that 60s era image of her

    3. EyesWithoutAbutt on

Yeah but you would think that if you write a song about someone famous maybe you’d do a little Google. I don’t think she really wrote that song about her haha.

She doesn’t think before she does stuff. She mispronounced Kamala Harris’ name in her non-endorsement neutral post in 2024 when trump won.

backlash from people who just googled ‚brigitte bardot politics‘ 5 seconds ago

Chappell Roan? Running her mouth off on something she doesn’t actually know about? This is my shocked face.

    7. whichwitch9 on

This is a fair response. Bardot’s more problematic parts did get glossed over, so acknowledging once pointed out is about all you can do in this situation

    8. It seems that for many of the 60s stars, the same „rebellious“ streak that made them icons in the 60s eventually soured. Same with Eric Clapton, John Wayne. Thank god Jane Fonda is still an angel 😇

Edit: removed Morrissey ?? Not sure why my phone decided to add that 🤣

My kids learned the term “camel jockey” just the other day and thought it was hilarious. Tragic bummer two seconds later when I told them it’s a slur and they should never repeat it.

They heard it in the movie “Die Hard” as one of famed dbag Ellis’s lines of dialogue. Not from friends or family or recent pop culture. There is no context in the movie to explain what it actually means. You have to already know.

Point is, sometimes ignorance is just ignorance. If you aren’t surrounded by racists who say racist slurs all the time, then how would you know it when you hear it?

This BB stuff was brand new to a lot of people who weren’t following French news 30 years ago. So like…some grace please

Hearing new context and changing your opinion is exactly how we want people to behave, and that’s exactly what Roan did. No need to bandwagon

The truth is I had no idea that BB went loco either. I just found out that fact researching her passing. She was so cool and outspoken in a positive way back in the day.

It’s so refreshing to see a celebrity make a mistake, own up to it, and apologize.

Just goes to show how slow and uninformed she is — writes a song about someone, but doesn’t know anything about them.

    13. youvegottabelieveme on

She was a huge inspiration to me, I didn’t know much about her

    14. angryaxolotls on

Oh, lord….. She knows Google exists and that her thumbs ain’t too broke to type 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    15. So, I’d definitely do at least 5 minutes of googling before basing a song on someone. Roane unfortunately has a history of not being very aware of the present, let alone the past.

TDIL that not everyone knew Bardot was cuckoo for Cocoa puffs. I am gonna go ahead and sit down next to the L in old and sulk to some Nirvana now…

    17. Friend_of_satan700 on

Oh boy. I had no idea. I only knew of her film career and her songs. That’s it. And I’m waaaaay older than Roan. Can’t fault her on this, I too had no idea

    18. I’m so sick of the random hate towards Chappel Roan who’s music I don’t even listen to. It’s okay to not be a typical Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter and be inadvertently born in the south. Haven’t heard one sustainable critique about this person

    19. Foucault_Please_No on

For a minute I hadn’t heard about this woman for long enough that I thought I had hallucinated her existence.

    20. People criticising Chappell Roan for posting about Bardot but media outlets are paying tribute to her like she was some kind of saint.

    21. battleofflowers on

She doesn’t know a lot of things. Like, she wants record labels to provide health insurance, but that would require the artist to be an employee. A recording artist really, really does not want to be considered an employee of the record label.
