Prices are going to drop. So you can be sure they will whack up the carbon taxes to „encourage“ us to switch to non existent green alternatives.

Unless it’s a 100% grant, where is someone who’s in arrears on their energy bill getting the money to install solar?

    3. Eurostat data shows that in August 2024, 24 European countries recorded lower fuel prices than the previous year

      Examples:

      • Sweden: –20.7% • Belgium: –8.9% • Slovakia: –8.4%

Eurostat specifically notes that Ireland saw a +4.0% increase in fuel prices year‑on‑year (which continues).

What are we missing to add to our misery? More stealth taxes?

Pity there isn’t an election around the corner…

    4. So the Minister has said they will consider grants for those in arrears. Hopefully theres a clear distinction made between those who can’t pay, and those who won’t pay because a minister has said they are considering a grant..

I went all in on electricity (heating/water etc..) for my home, taking a financial hit to play my part. Now the government have given me the middle finger with data centres and grants for gas.

„O’Brien was also asked about the lag between a drop in wholesale prices and retail prices.

“The reality is that our energy companies will hedge and they purchase forward, they’re purchasing fuel in advance,” said O’Brien.

“When you see a wholesale price drop, understandably, people say, ‘when’s the retail price going to drop?’

“There is a lag time between the period where they’ve already paid at the higher price.”

What a load of bollocks from someone who never has to worry about any bill ever….

      What a tosser.

What he’s not saying is that the customer is screwed for at least the entire winter while the suppliers make money off hedging. The consumer won’t see these price drops until winter is over, and *“will consider grants“* what a fucking lie.
