>According to a new Tesla Service message shared by an owner, Tesla has officially opened an active Engineering Investigation into the wiper’s performance, going so far as to replace entire wiper arm assemblies while waiting for a more permanent solution.

>Early units faced a recall in June 2024 due to faulty wiper motors, but complaints have persisted regarding the wiper’s actual cleaning ability, especially in colder weather. Owners have reported several issues with the blade, including improper stowage at high speeds, poor contact at the top and middle of the stroke, and fluid issues.

A wiper fundamentally has one (important) job to do, and it would be useful if it were able to function under a variety of standard conditions like winter. It’s continually disappointing with these companies that such a basic piece of safety equipment wasn’t properly tested before being hustled out the door.

I think there should be an investigation into the truck itself.

I’m still holding out hope for Elon’s laser wipers.
That was a fully fleshed out and well thought out idea!

„Poor contact issues are the most common, with the blade not cleaning over the forward-facing FSD cameras and the passenger’s half of the windshield not effectively cleaned, often leaving FSD unavailable in salty road conditions.“

If they were designed by “costumers” they might be better…

Are they also opening investigations into the glued-on parts, suspension failures, lack of door handles, bad autopilot software, unintended acceleration and their tendency to burst into flame?

The first thing we learned in school when studying industrial design was “form follows function.” It’s the most basic principle of good design and why things work. Tesla came into the market trying to make function follow form and that almost never works. The biggest problem isn’t that one auto manufacturer tried to flip the script, it’s that everyone else is trying to follow suit now. Cars missing buttons, functional handles, and shoving massive distractions in them all over are ruining modern cars.

This is what happens when you design a car with the priority of it looking cool rather than performance/efficiency…
