Algerians are shitting on France, yet they come en masse to live and study there. They also make their family come because France is so bad that it makes workers live with their family. When their parents or family members are sick, they come to France to get treated. Complicated case in Algeria? They also come to France to have treatment.

Algeria first needs to pay reparations for its role in the arab black and white slave trade throughout the centuries.
Can’t find the comment, but someone called it in another post. The current governement is made up mostly of the families of people who supported the French. Making colonialism a crime, is just a fast track to demand reparations. Whatever is received will just go right into the pockets of these families.

As everyone noticed, the Algerian government has actually no interest in settling the historical dispute and seek no reconciliation, despite the fact that a French-Algerian commission was created a couple of years ago, with actual historians in it.
A vast majority of French people know that colonization was a crime. My own grandfather was sent to war and hated it and nostalgia of French Algeria is extremely rare, although unfortunately it hasn’t completely disappeared.
The real question is: why the Algerian rulers, all of them from the independence generation, keep bringing it up as a cover up for their failed policies? Why couldn’t they bring democracy and prosperity to a country so rich in natural resources in their 60+ years of independence? Do they plan to blame France for the next 60, or are they willing to leave it to historians (the same applies to the French far right)?
A few points for those unfamiliar with Algeria:
– It’s an authoritarian, militaristic, and religious government that is slowly becoming increasingly fascist.
– Algeria violates all the international agreements it has signed.
– Algeria destabilizes all its neighbors (ask yourself why it has terrible relations with anyone). Whether it’s arming the Polisario Front or willingly serving as a rear base for jihadists in the Sahel (who are reminiscent of the Algerians of the GIA), it’s not exactly ideal.
– Algeria imprisons journalists and writers.
– Algeria has a subservient medias that promote ultra-nationalist and deeply racist propaganda, particularly against Morocco and Mali.
In short, it’s a government that’s barely better than Putin’s Russia. Any attempt to have a sincere discussion about history with them is futile because they are not acting in good faith. They are not seeking to settle the dispute in a serious manner but to humiliate France in order to stir up their nationalist and belligerent fervor towards all their neighbors (and maybe to get money).
Tell me you’re a failed post colonial nation without telling me. Vietnam is doing great and isn’t having this endless victim attitude
