There are a lot of excellent Indians that have come to Canada. The problem is that much like Free Trade we need to diversify our immigration. The student route was a scam. As a person who worked in post secondary, many of these individuals already had degrees in their country yet they came here for college. The goat was to get immigration not go back. The other aspect is many of them would go to college to learn a trade just go to through the Truck Driver scam route. Every college knows about this. The reset is beneficial for everyone.
Why do they frame it like it’s a bad thing? When it comes to immigration these news outlets are more concerned with carrying water for foreign migrants than they are with considering the wellbeing of Canadians.

This is great news. For the students who are scammed into coming here by diploma mills and for Canadians who can’t get work because of the system being abused to the point of breaking.
I have no animus towards them whatsoever but it’s clear that for a lot of them the studying bit was not top of mind. It was to gain a foothold in Canada and stay. I do question how so many will be successful given the high cost if living. I won’t mourn the loss of these bogus colleges that were set up.
Business is really going to have to pivot. When was the last time you went to Tims/McDonalds/A&W and didn’t see a 100% Indian workforce there?
Canada can only absorb so many before it becomes a false bag of goods for the immigrants and screws over the locals

I mean it was made pretty clear that we don’t want anywhere near the same level of foreign students here.
There was an insane amount of fraud and organized crime related to the „schools“ a lot of these kids were coming to.
In theory this should have been a good thing for Canada, students come to university here and get a job, get citizenship, get married, have kids. Sadly this became the opposite, it was used to get slave labour in the country and then abuses happened everywhere. If this followed what in theory it should have been then it would have been a great thing for us.
